The Queen's journey through Lilydale and district during her Australian tour, 1954Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh passed through Lilydale by train 6 March 1954 on their way to Warburton. Residents along the route turned out to see the royal couple. The royal visit made such an impression that it is still vividly remembered six decades later. The visit to Tatura of Queen Elizabeth 2 was first by a reigning monarch and no other visit has caused such excitement. The Station was highly decorated and the Royal Cypher in golden flowers mounted on scarlet velvet made a perfect background for the artistic scheme. Flags with various prints on were mass produced for people to wave as the Queen visited numerous towns and cities in Australia for about 3 months early in 1954. These particular ones were sold by the Red Cross for fundraising purposes.
