From the early 1960s, the Forests Commission had pre-season arrangements in place with local aeroclubs and pilots across regional Victoria. Air observers from FCV districts routinely flew during the summer months in small, fixed-wing aircraft on fire spotting missions and to map fire boundaries. The information was often needed quickly by crews on the ground or in the control centre and these small chutes were used to drop messages and maps from the reconnaissance aircraft on a low pass above a cleared area like a football field. About 3-foot long when fully extended, they had a small pouch secured with a press stud for the map or package. The chutes were made from tough canvas with a small, weighted sandbag at one end and a long yellow streamer tail on the other to help direct its fall and locating it on the ground. Drop chutes were still in common use in the 1990s, but the increased availability of helicopters combined with improved digital data transfer made drop chutes redundant. The Land Conservation Council has carried out an investigation of historic places in public land in South-western Victoria. The report contains the Council's recommendations for the protection, management and future use of more than 700 historic places, out of 2200 places identified during the investigation. The places have been assigned to three categories, A, B and C, representing State, regional and local levels of significance. She has chosen central motifs in her work, which she incorporates throughout a series. The urn has been a unifying motif in Wilson's map work and testifies to the way in which function drives form across cultures. Carole's work is held in many public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Powerhouse Museum, State Library of Victoria and a number of regional Victorian galleries. Her posters are in museum collections in Finland, Moscow and Poland. In 2001 Dr Wilson was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Visual Art) from the University of Ballarat (Now Federation University). She graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Ballarat in 1987, and a Diploma of Art from the Phillip Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 1984. Some highlights include: 27/10/1986 it was reported that tactile maps of the Melbourne Metropolitan Railway network are now available. 6/2/1987 as special meeting had been called to discuss in detail what action should be taken regarding the proposed $2 coin. John Cook advised that BMC had been invited to send a representative to Canberra to meet with other Blind consumers and representatives from the Mint and Treasury. The BMC agreed the coins needed further testing. 29/2/1988 The Treasury received further letters regarding the $2.00 coin. It was agreed this matter could not be pursued any further. 26/11/1990 it was reported that the commissioned by BMC of the Association's founder Miss Tilly Aston, was officially unveiled by Mrs Jean Ross and Mrs Diana Jones at the 95th Birthday Celebration Concert. The portrait was then hung in the foyer of the Vision Resource Centre. Suitably framed photographs of the founder's portrait to be circulated to all branches. In 1975 the Melton Fire Station opened in McKenzie Street. In the 1950s with the introduction two-way HF and later VHF very high frequency radio sets. Melton Rural Fire Brigade was part of the Bacchus Marsh Group. Radio sets where located in the Melton Fire Truck, and in the house of the Barrie family at Ferris Road. This was an ideal location to observe a 360 degree view in all directions when smoke appeared on the horizon. An antenna was erected beside the house. The set OX 7 was located in the kitchen and monitored 24 hours by the family. When an electrical fire occurred at the junction of the electricity to the house there was time to radio the fire station and summons the men working in the paddocks, thus saving the house from possible destruction. With the introduction of UHF – ultra high frequency Vinten Radios the signal was clearer and static and interference lessened and radio traffic became easier to read, and reduced noise levels in the household. In 1974 when the family moved to First Avenue, another antenna and a small building were erected adjacent to the residence and used to house the equipment, maps. Radio traffic consisted of regular schedule times and communication with adjoining groups of brigades such as Bacchus Marsh, Mt Macedon and Little River Groups. Murray Comrie Collection. John Pierce's Southern Cross General Store, a wholesale grocer and spirit merchant was put up for sale after Pierce's death in 1871. It was later incorporated into the Flour Mill complex. De Gruchy & Leigh was a publishing and printing firm operating in Melbourne and regional Victoria from the late 1850s until the mid 1860s. The company published almanacs and guidebooks as well as prints (portraits, views and genre scenes), maps and architectural plans (Source: National Portrait Gallery, Canberra). This is a copy created from another item in the collection - a printed piece of paper which was either a packing label or receipt form used at the company or a brand label for bottles, perhaps for wine made by the proprietor. Copy probably made by Murray Comrie in the 1970s. Monochrome photographic copy of a lithograph. Depicts a building with glass front windows and signage stating 'J. Pierce Wine & Spirit Merchant' and 'Southern Cross General Store, Wholesale and Retail Depot'. In front of building on road are two horses hitched to carts and men standing on cart and in front of store. This store was located on the south-eastern corner of Commercial Road and King Street. Although Flinders documented his voyage to Australia in his major work "Voyage to Terra Australia", little mention is made of his voyage to Bribie Island. However this publication claims Matthew Flinders as the first official tourist to Bribie Island. A small booklet issued as the program for an exhibition celebrating 130 years of music and theatre in Albury Wodonga. It consists of 16 pages and contains illustrations, a map, and portraits.Dr. Barnett and the "Irish Tiger" was an in-house and travelling exhibition of the Albury Regional Museum. The in-house exhibition took place from 14 December 1985 until 30 June 1986. The travelling exhibition were available for three to six week periods between July 1986 and July 1987. Museums, galleries, schools and libraries could apply to host the exhibition. The Albury Amateur Dramatic Club was formed in 1859. In December that year, they staged a production of "Two Heads are Better Than One", and the "Irish Tiger" at the Theatre Royal which was attached to the Imperial Hotel in Townsend Street, Albury to raise money for the building fund for a Mechanics Theatre Dr Joseph Knight Barnett was Involved in the formation of the Dramatic Club and was stage manager for these productions.
