The dwelling is representative of the development of the Georgian Revival style in the 1920s and 30s and its popularity amongst the upper-middle classes as a result of the work of William Hardy Wilson and Professor Leslie Wilkinson. It is of importance as a fine and largely intact designer/builder example of the Georgian Revival style, with American Georgian Revival influences. The dwelling embodies the principal characteristics of the style. American Georgian Revival influences are noted in the deep eaves with modillions, central broken pediment, brick quoins and presentation of the central porch. The garden wall, with arched opening, in the side setback appears to be an early or original landscape feature, based on the comparable brick work detail construction with that of the house. Considering this, it is the only early landscape feature extant which assists in providing some understanding of the original landscape layout of the property. Although probably built some time earlier, the first mention in the Rate Books of the property later known as 'Wimba Lodge' appears in the entry for 1870 when the property, owned by John Sharpe Denbigh, a civil servant, was given an N.A.V. of £72. Denbigh did however occupy a house in Cotham Road in 1863, and it is possible that was the same premises'. The house was occupied by Sharp until at least May 1876 when the 'family residence ... was auctioned' to Carlington George Edmund Marston, a chemist of Smith Street, Collingwood. At the time of the auction the house was described thus: The residence and grounds of the late J.S. Dendigh, situate in the most elevated part of Cotham Road Kew. The grounds comprise an area of 4a Or 29p or thereabouts, and have a frontage to Cotham-road of 4 chains. The house has two large rooms in front, with 6ft hall built of brick, bay and side windows (plate glass), four rooms of wood behind with slate roofs, bathroom and closets, detached kitchen and servant's room, large shed with washing boiler, pantry and cellar under, brick and cement tank, and the Yan Yean laid onto house and grounds, cowshed, pigstye, &c, the whole securely fenced. First class orchard and flower garden. The paddocks laid with English grasses and drained... .' (Sanderson P. Kew Conservation Study Vol 2)'Wimba' is a single storeyed rendered house. The front entrance is flanked by two polygonal bay windows, and a verandah with a concave corrugated iron roof returns around three facades, and accentuates the projections of the windows. The Kew East and Mont Albert Heritage Gap Study (August 2020) established that: 'Kew East Primary School No. 3136 is historically significant for the evidence it provides of an early phase in the development of Kew East which gathered momentum from the 1920s, as housing developed rapidly and the population increased in response to the extension of the High Street tram to Harp Road then Burke Road then improved tram connections between the area and the city.'A rare and early photograph of the school taken four years after its construction. NOTES ON GRANDVIEW GROVE PROPERTY (Carter Family Tree extract) The Grandview Grove property was purchased by William (Bill) and Doreen Carter in 1947 as three acres of uncleared bushland. They had a 2 bedroom fibro-cement house built on the land which they informally called "Willoreen". With Doreen looking after sons Peter (born in 1940) and Robin (born in 1950), Bill worked locally at Croydon Dairy. The family spent much of their spare time clearing the land, where Bill then grew and sold fruit, flowers and berries, particularly strawberries, as a hobby and to supplement their income. Bill continued to do so while Peter and Robin were growing up, and after Doreen died in 1958. In 1961 Bill sold one of the three acres to one of his seven sisters, Grace, who lived in Kew but later moved to Rosebud and sold the land without ever building on it. During the 1960s, Grandview Grove was renamed Bemboka Road. After retiring as a milkman, Bill moved to Rosebud, Vic, and in 1977, sold the property to the Anglican Church, who were looking to invest in the site in anticipation of proposed future residential development in the area. As nearby properties were subdivided during the 1980s, the house, which the Church had initially utilised as low-cost family accommodation, was modified internaly to become a church/Sunday school. By the early 2000s, construction of a contemporary-design church and carparking area between the house and street alignment had been completed but the house remained as a detatched meeting room until falling into disrepair and was eventually demolished around 2010.

Each was built on part of the land fronting the Kew branch line. In May 1939, the Railway Commissioners agreed to lease a site at the Kew Railway Station for a Baby Health Centre. The single-storey cream brick building was designed by Roland Chipperfield. The Country Roads Board (1913–83), later renamed VicRoads, transferred its headquarters from the Royal Exhibition Building to Kew in 1961, following the completion of two modernist eight-storey office towers in 1960.
