Clothing - Cap, scouts, Circa 1950
This cap belonged to Mark Pullen, a cub scout from Highton, Geelong, Victoria. No information is available on Mark Pullen. In Warrnambool there are three scout groups – Allansford, Norfolk (scout hall at the corner of Raglan Parade and Kepler Street) and Tooram (scout halls at the corner of Timor and Banyan Streets and in Otway Road). Cub scouts in Victoria are aged between 8 and 10. This cap has no known local provenance but is a useful item for display.This is a cap made of dark green wool with narrow gold braid dividing the crown into six sections. A button is missing from the top. The badge on the cap is a circular patch with the scout emblem in yellow and green. 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles was equipped with White Scout Cars in 1960s.The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Black and white photograph of two White Scout cars painted in a distinctive camouflage pattern suggested by the Troop Sergeant who had seved with Panzer Corps in Russia during WW2." 2TP Puckapunyal White Scout Car." -

'Harry' (Richard Henry) Watson was the son of John (Jack) and Edie Watson of Cromie Street Murtoa. This is his Registration Certificate for the Boy Scouts 1st Murtoa Troop. An illustrated rectangular certificate in blue, navy blue and orange colours on a greyish background with a white border. Illustrations of scouting activities are included along with the Motto - Be Prepared - and a picture of Baden Powell. The hand written names of the scout (Harry Watson); the troop (1st Murtoa); and two representatives of the State Executive Committee and the date (1/9/1928) are included with the Scout's Promise. Certificate Register No.380/4 The slash could be a 1 or a 7 but does not rest on the line as do the other numbers. Uniform - Scout Uniform, 4th Kew, Scout Association of Victoria, c.1990
This uniform belonged to Jane Reid when she was a member of the 4th Kew Scout Troop. Jane joined Scouts in 1990 and was one of the first two girls to join Scouts in Kew. Prior to this, the Scout Section was restricted to boys only but was progressively opened to girls. Now girls are members in every section. The khaki shirt bears the Kew District badge on the right and the Scout Membership badge on the left. On the left sleeve is the patrol badge and target badges. The black and green scarf is excludove to 4th Kew and the woggle was Jane's choice.Short-sleeved, collarless fabric shirt of khaki color, with embroidered badges. When the donor first joined the Scouts the uniform was blue. It was then discovered that they weren't Sea Scouts and the uniform was changed to khaki. The donor was on duty as a scout at the Melbourne Olympic games and attended the Scout Jamboree at Clifford Park before the Olympics. He wore the shirt and one of the scarves at the 1956 Olympic games in Melbourne.
