Built 1860 as Bank of New South Wales. Sold 1903 to Mr Lewers (son of Samuel Lewers, first manager of the bank in Linton). Operated as antique shop by Mrs Surman 1950s-1981. Built early 1860 as a bakery by Mr Winstanley. James Nicol bought the bakery late 1860s - operated as a bakery until 1972, Ray Wilson being the last baker. Max Standish purchased the building and opened an antique shop 1973-1983. The hotel began life in the 1860s as Luth's Hotel, and was then known as O'Sullivan's Hotel and McCuskey's Hotel before becoming the Railway Hotel in about 1890. The change to this name occurred after tenders were let to build the railway line to Linton in 1889. The hotel was substantially renovated in the early 1900s and the verandah is thought to have been added by about 1920.One of three colour photographs printed on a single sheet of photographic paper. Mrs Angus operated a shop next to the Shire of Grenville hall from about 1887 (when her husband bought the shop) until at least the late 1890s. George Garnsworthy Bennett conducted his butcher shop in Sussex Street, Linton, from about 1896. The Shire of Grenville offices in Linton were built n in 1939, and replaced the original Shire Hall which was built in the 1860s. At the time the offices were built, Linton was the headquarters of the Shire of Grenville. The Shire of Grenville ceased to exist in 1993 following municipal amalgamations, and the offices are now the Linton offices of the Golden Plains Shire which has its headquarters at Bannockburn.Colour photograph showing a single-storey cream brick building, with a flagpole and various memorials outside it. The tiles were made by Linton Primary School pupils and members of the community as part of the Press Mould Tile Project 2001-2002. This building was the first Bank of New South Wales building in Linton. It was replaced in 1903-04 by a newer building further to the north along Sussex Street.
