Booklet 'Camp Westlake Collingwood Technical School:...' written by Principal J.F. Barberis
Camp Westlake was built by Collingwood Technical School in 1967 and was officially opened on 22 September 1968. The camp was built by staff and students of the school with finance from various school sections and from materials donated by interested people and firms. It is named after Mr. F.R.Westlake and Mrs. Westlake who were staunch workers for the school. (From J.F.Barberis}Booklet of 15 pages with gold cover, A4 sized. Title: Camp Westlake Collingwood Technical School: an experience in country life at Buxton North East Victoria (62 miles)' written by Principal J.F. Barberis (undated but possibly around 1970-1971). Also 6 page booklets on Camp Westlake in English, Greek, Serbo-Croation, Spanish and Turkish. Also photographs of buildings and students at the camp. One consists of photographs of the progressive building and the second consists of photographs of the Official Opening of the Otter Street Campus on Thursday September 17th 1981 at 2pm by His Excellency The Honourable Sir Henry Winneke, Governor of Victoria. Also an Invitation card to the event. Guests included Hon.AJ Hunt, Minister for Education. During the opening there was a bomb scare so the building was evacuated, hence the police presence. ... NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Photographs ...A number of black and white photographs recording the history of Collingwood Technical School's Boot and Shoe building. This building was burnt down in 1943. Machinery valued at £14,000 was lost. Total damage was estimated at £25,000. It was the only bootmaking school in Melbourne. (Scott p.48). It was replaced by the Footwear Trades building which was constructed between 1945 and 1947. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on 21st February 1945 by the Hon. T. T. Hollway, MLA, Minister of Education. The photographs include: The original Boot and Shoe classroom [1929]-1943; The Burnt out building 1943; Six photographs of the Laying of the Foundation Stone event on 21st February 1945 by the Hon.
