P ...Report - hand made on very thin paper, almost rice paper, 3 pages + cover note of 2/11/1921 to Mr. Wilcox, General Manager from Mr. C. W. Young and W. A. Savage, Assist Traffic Manager titled "Proposed Flying City Shunt". Report suggests that improved shunting arrangements are needed at Collins and Spencer St due to increased traffic. Notes cars can be shunted in abnormal conditions in 40 seconds. Normal shunting was 60secs it appears. Report gives details of the costs and the shunting times taken to turn cable sets around. The cover note of 2/11/1921, re-submits the report to Mr Dix from a person (can read the signature) from the Fitzroy Power House. Last page was scanned separately as a jpg file. Trams tramways Badges Employees Pass TB Workshops Tramway Board ...Pressed metal uniform badge for the Melbourne Tramways Board, workshop staff, available all lines. Round pressed steel badge with the words "All Lines" pressed into the badge around the top portion of the badge, the word "Car Works" and number "25" pressed into the lower half of the badge -with small horizontal lines within the individual letters. Has a brass finish with the Melbourne Tramways Board logo in the lower part of the badge. On rear badge two metal lugs have been soldered onto the badge and a leather strap with a button hole cut into to enable it to be worn on a uniform. Leather strap secured with wire. Used possibly from mid 1910's when the Board was formed until it was replaced by the MMTB in 1921. This lighting was introduced by the Tramway Board (TB ...Photograph shows a group of five cable tramway employees with a cart containing batteries to supply power for lights in Melbourne Cable trams. This lighting was introduced by the Tramway Board (TB), the forerunner to the MMTB during 1917. A motor generator at each car house or depot provided the power to charge the batteries which were then placed in each tram for the day. Reference - The Commonwealth Engineer 1/8/1917 - Reg Item 2568. The equipment was provided by the General Electric Company. The cart has the letters "TB CH" possibly indicating Clifton Hill Depot and the batteries are lettered "NE" and then given a number. Photo date unknown - 1917 to 1940. This photograph is Public Records Office photo H84 in the Victorian Railways collection.Yields information about the type of batteries used to provide lighting power to cable trams and the workers involved and their clothing. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at to the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. Both sides have a edge lining border about 1mm from the outer edge. Has been mounted or enclosed within a coin collectors/sale cardboard folder with an embossed crown on the front. See Inscriptions. Record updated following a query and being advised of an article in The Argus 1-4-1924 - see Reg Item 3359 for a copy. Item probably dates from c1920, phased out 1924. News item says made from "Paper Mache". Tramways Board cricket team from 1926-9 cricket teams arthur miers ...Arthur Henry Miers, pictured in the photograph played for cricket, football and baseball teams in Kew for a number of decades in the first half of the twentieth century. He was born on 22 November 1901, the son of Rodolph Theophilus Miers (1874-1951) and Margaret Frances (Margaretta) Fry (1875-1958). He had two brothers, Rodolph Cecil Miers (1904-80) and Charles Wilfred Miers (1906-88), and a sister Marjorie Elizabeth Miers (1911-84).
