This image was one of a series taken by Harold Millane in the late 1940's. They were printed onto post cards. Mary Millane, Harold's wife, printed captions on each negative with Indian ink. The series includes a variety of views of Mitcham, Vermont, Nunawading, Park Orchards and Doncaster East. The first of the Vermont Primary School buildings was erected on 1872. In 1907 a room was built onto the west side of the building and a new classroom and cloakroom were erected in 1922. Due to rising numbers and traffic volume, Vermont Progress Association urged the government to relocate the school buildings to a less prominent site, and new school buildings were erected in Nurlendi Street in the 1950's. The original timber building remained on the site until its removal to the Nurlendi Street site in the 1990's, and is on the city of Whitehorse Heritage Review.Coloured photograph of the Vermont Primary School while it was standing vacant from the 1950's until 1989 when it was moved to the main school in Nurlendi Road, Vermont. William and Paul Pietsch, co-owners of the Doncaster Fruit Juices and Syrups company began their business in a garage in Warburton. Being German, they moved to Doncaster where they had many friends and fruit was readily available. Their last move was to the garage in Vermont South shown in the photograph. Dr L L Smith was a pioneer of the Vermont District. He owned 250 acres in the area bounded by Boronia, Canterbury and Heatherdale Roads and the creek. The property was known as L L Vale after which the road was named. Name was changed to Boronia Road in later years. He was a Doctor with rooms in the City, was a member of Parliament.Sepia Postcard of L L Road, Vermont (now Boronia Road) taken in the early 1900s (card is postmarked 27 Aug 1909). This vehicle was owned and operated by the Metropolitan Ambulance service. It was regularly used in the suburb of Preston. It is typical of an emergency ambulance of that era. The vehicle was restored by Medical Transport Services Australia and Montvern Panelmaster in Vermont, Victoria.Four-wheeled vehicle fitted out as an ambulance. Tunstall was originally the name of Nunawading Railway Station. Tunstall opened on 4 June 1888 and was renamed on 1 November 1945.
