Testimonial dinner given by the Citizens of Ringwood under the auspices of the Ringwood Jaycees. They convened a public testimonial dinner recognising the public service rendered by Mr James W. Manson who held the seat of Ringwood in the Victorian State Parliament from 1958 until 1973. Held at Dorset Gardens Hotel, Croydon.Menu and programme for a Testimonial Dinner. Cream coloured folded light cardboard with blue printing. For Manson, James W.WEG (William Ernest Green) drew a caricature of Jim Manson in the programme.

Historical information - RECHABITES - The Star of Kew Tent, No. 260. This branch of the Independent Order of Rechabites was founded in September, 1882, when the following members were installed as the first officers by the district officers, viz. Chief Ruler, Bro. W. H. Bardwell; Deputy Ruler, Bro. C. 
Viney; Past Chief Ruler, Bro. J. V. Morgan; Treasurer, Bro. R. Eyre; Money Steward, Bro. A. Brown; Levite, Bro. W. H. Richardson; Guardian, Bro. J. Wathen; Secretary, Bro. T. J. Eaton. Bros. W. H. Bardwell, T. J. Eaton, and F. J. Legge 
were appointed as trustees. It is interesting to 
note that three of the foundation members, Messrs. Bardwell, Eaton, and Richardson, and still members of the tent. The first meetings were held in the Mission Hall, but for many years the meeting place 
of the tent has been the Kew Town Hall. The funds of the tent have gradually accumulated until at the last audit they amounted to £2,097. For many years past the interest on the funds has been more than sufficient to meet all claims for sick pay. The 
total membership is now 140. The following past secretaries have been mainly instrumental in placing the tent in its present position:-Bros. T. J. Eaton, W. H. Bardwell, C. B. Gray, and C. L. Dividers are used by navigators to measure the distance between two points on a map or chart. Each point of the divider is places on a map point, then the distance between the points of the divider is measured against the scale of the chart or map. This helps determine the ship's path of travel, the distance travelled and the current location.Not very significant as not associated with any historical event or person, same pattern of dividers is available today from many retail outlets. This compass is the type used by an artillery unit of the Australian Military Forces during World War 2 and made by J W Handley. Although having owned the factory site since 1935 at 657 Victoria St J W Handley began to produce various items for the Australian Military forces after purchasing and expanding the factory to 655 Victoria St. It appears that he, or some one else may already have been occupying the site for industrial purposes, such as (Manufacturing, Foundry and Electroplating) since at least 1929. J W Handley Pty Ltd was actively producing items for the Military during the war years, a newspaper article from 1939 shows the factory in production and employing 420 people during 1939. J W Handley after the war moved into producing other non military items including a range of fishing reels. The company ceased trading in 1987 and was deregistered as J W Handley Pty Ltd in 1990.The item demonstrates the industrial capability of Australia at the start of World War 2. Delivery cart of Mr & Mrs W J Atkinson’s greengrocery business and general store near the corner of Whitehorse and Elgar Roads, c 1930. Emma Uebergang and William James Atkinson married in 1930. They ran a mixed business in Whitehorse Road from 1926-1952. Stock included fruit and vegetables, sweets and some groceries. With Mr Atkinson is Albert Cunnington who in about 1930 helped with deliveries. To the left can be seen Whitehorse Road as it approaches the shopping centre and over the back of the horse can be seen the White Horse Hotel. Archir Harker was married to Ruby Wilson and mentioned in the "Wielands of Heathmont "book. From Greg Coker: In August 2023, RDHS asked Greg Coker to scan a set of negatives. He was able to work out, through various notes, that the pictures were taken by J A Harker of 9 Grange St, Mont Albert in the mid 50s to the mid 60s. Most of the film was 9cm X 6cm B&W negatives. All pictures have been cropped and where appropriate, put through a light filter. They have been scanned at 1600ppi resulting in ~3meg B&W shots (~5meg for the half dozen colour shots). The Harkers certainly liked their hiking – they were ahead of their time. Images scanned from Kodakl packet of negatives, undated. After scanning in 2023 by Greg Coker, the negatives and packet were. Some photos may be duplicated in other VC Harker/Weiland family records if the original prints were donated. Greg's comments: Early 50s to Mid 60s – Original colour & B&W negatives Largest packet of negatives with multiple sets clearly combined in this one envelop These were made up of: - 8 colour 9X6cm negatives – late 60s - ~40 B&W 9X6cm negatives – Early - late 50s - 3 large B&W 12x9cm negatives – Mid 50s Most of the pictures in this set are portraits pictures of Mr or Mrs Harker. Many in the front and back yards of 9 Grange street, Mont Albert. A few negatives of Phillip Island here also (Identified the Nobbies). Kodacolor Prints.

Receipt issued by Kitty Sandow, the daughter of John and Ruby Sandow, who had from the late 1920s run a mixed business in Sussex Street, Linton. (Current address 88 Sussex Street.) Kitty worked in and later ran her parents' shop. After she married Reg Jennings in 1946, the shop became known as 'Jennings' Shop' or 'Jennings' Milk Bar'. 'Mrs W. The Maker’s Mark stamped on the back of this plate, a green laurel wreath with “W. H. Gringley & Co. Ltd, England” below, was used by the company between 1914-1925, according to Kroker and Goundry, authors of a paper “ARCHAEOLOGICAL MONITORING AND MITIGATION OF THE ASSINIBOINE RIVERFRONT QUAY”. The company used different Marks at other times during their operation. The design on this plate is transferware. The company used this more economical process of adding a transfer rather than employing artists to handprint them onto their dinnerware. William Henry Grindley and Alfred Meakin established the company at Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, in 1880. The company produced their wares for export to countries that included Australia.This ceramic plate is an example of dinnerware imported from England. The plate was made between 1914 and 1925 . The popular 'bird of paradise' design on the plate is an example of transferware, which made decorative dinnerware more affordable. China plate, earthenware, round, off-white colour with fine blue rim and three transfer decals spaced around the rim. Decals each have a bird of paradise on a flowering branch. The centre of the plate is plain. The maker’s stamp is an open green laurel wreath enclosing a decorative horizontal line, above the name. Made by W H Grindley & Co. William Thomas George was born in Birmingham in 1884 and was a tin plate worker. He and his wife Ellene had a son Leslie Thomas George. The firm W T George & Co was formed sometime later. In 1939 his firm produced ship lamps. The Patent Number GB546575 on the lamp's plate was assigned to Leslie Thomas George in 1941 for improvements in, or relating to, ships' lanterns. From that time the patent number was affixed to their namufactured Meteorite lights. The ship navigation lamp is important as an example of the evolution of marine safety technology. Countries began passing laws and regulations in the 1830s that required ships to show navigation lights at night or in poor weather. From the late 1840s colours were standardised; red for portside of the vessel and green for starboard, a white masthead light, and a white light at anchor. By 1914 the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea was formed and continues, with decisions and notifications on improvements and changes.. Lamp; Portside ship's lamp is rounded in the front with two flat sides coming to a point at the rear. Glass has circular ridging. Metal handle with lid and clasp. The reflector has red colouring. Inscribed on fixed plates on the front, with maker's details and Patent number. This Meteorite lantern was made by W T George and Co Ltd, of Birmingham. These are handwritten land receipt documents between Maxwell Proctor and W. Hunter (owner) 1946 - 1951 and between M.H. Proctor and H. Proctor 1947, 1948 and 1949.Two sets of handwritten land receipts in a used envelope with blue type at the bottom: Chamber of Manufactures Insurance Ltd. The first set of three receipts are written in copperplate handwriting for Mr. M. H. Proctor and are for the purchase of land, from W. Hunter (owner of the land). They are dated Feb 28th 1946, 17th April 1951 and an indecipherable date o the last one. The second set of six handwritten receipts are from M. H. Proctor to H. Proctor for land purchased: May 27th 1947, Dec 7th 1947, June 22nd 1948, Dec 14th 1948, May 30th 1949 and Dec.6th 1949. All letters are handwritten with a small green or yellow 3d. official Stamp Of Victoria glued to them. They are all signed by W Hunter or H. J.
