Elizabeth Bennett (b. 1858), married William Todd (b. 1855) in 1882 and they had nine children. They were actively involved in the Linton community, particularly with the Church of England, where Mrs. Todd was organist for many years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding at Linton in 1932, by which time they were living in Ballarat.Scanned/modified copy of a photograph of the Todd family, believed to have been taken in Ballarat around 1905/1906. The girls are Elizabeth Lock and Nanette Hunt. The photograph was taken in the garden at the former Donaldson family home in Sussex Street, Linton. Unfortunately, the house is not shown - the view is across Sussex Street to a cottage on the other side of the road. Elizabeth Lock's aunt and uncle, Vera and James Johnson, bought the house from the Donaldson family in the mid 1930s. Elizabeth Lock, b.1934, often stayed for extended periods with her aunt and uncle and briefly attended school at Linton in 1941. Nanette Hunt, b.1931, was the daughter of William George Hunt, Postmaster at Linton in the 1930s.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows two small girls dressed in fairy or butterfly costumes. Stanley Bruce was an Australian politician and diplomat, who served as Prime Minister between 1923 and 1929, when he became the first Prime Minister to lose his seat at an election. Lizzie Bennett married William Todd at Linton on New Year's Day 1882, and the Todds celebrated their Golden Wedding at Linton in 1932.Letter of thanks dated 19th February 1932, from S. M. Battery cell jar, Leclanche Indiarubber Co. Silvertown, Leclanche Cell Jar
Excavated from the back yard of Linton & District Historical Society's resource centre in October 2001.Square, green glass jar with pouring lip. The jar formed part of an early type of electric battery. The battery cell consisted of a jar which held carbon and zinc plates, standing in a solution of ammonium chloride. The chemical reaction between the plates and the solution produced a small electrical charge. William Thomas Rowe was the son of William Thomas Rowe (1835-1893) of Glenfine Station, Pitfield. He was an innovative farmer, horse breeder and Grenville Shire Councillor. He married Beatrix Norman, and they had five children. The oldest, born in 1915, was also called William Thomas Rowe.Photograph of William Thomas Rowe (1873-1935). Samuel Steele lived in Linton from at least 1860 and built the drapery store known as Criterion House in 1862/1863. His first three children were born at Linton. Samuel Steele moved into Ballarat in the late 1860s and established a drapery store in Sturt Street. He afterwards lived at Stawell and ran businesses there and in Ararat.Scan of original photograph which shows the head and shoulders of an older man who has a short beard. Ewen Rankin migrated from Scotland to Victoria in 1852 with his parents and brothers and sisters. He became an important figure in Linton, being involved with both agricultural and mining activities. He was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church.
