Generally black or dark blue, they are richly jewelled and embroidered; each one individually designed for its owner, as he, or she, takes office at the central court. The miniature is a record of this office. This, the Armourer’s Robe is typical of the richly decorated formal styles of the 10” to 12" Centuries Post Imperium. The symbolism is obvious: oversleeves of silver, to indicate one of the metals used in the making of weapons; decorative daggers, indicative of the famous throwing and fighting knives; studs, symbolising protective armour; and touches of red alongside the predominating metal, to represent the shedding of blood, (a minor theme, because bloodshed is undesirable). The Void, the centre of Irusaqu worship is always shown on this Robe, because all fighting men or women have a deep religious responsibility to obey the Voidic code. The ceramic insulators were used by the PMG to insulate telephone lines connecting to the lightstation accommodation. The installation of a single galvanised wire telegraph line in 1873 provided the lightstation with a vital link to the outside world via Morse code. In 1875, the Australasian Sketcher reported on the new facility, writing that ‘the lighthouse on the extreme point of the promontory is connected with Melbourne by a line of telegraph, and as a large number of vessels pass in sight of the lighthouse, useful information is gained respecting their movements’.The system was immobilised in 1885 when a thunderstorm caused some of the poles to explode and connection wires to fuse and turn into molten metal. During WWII the lighthouse line was upgraded to four copper wires, and in 1971 a radio link replaced the line. The lines required constant maintenance. Some poles remain along the length of the promontory’s Telegraph Track as reminders of this former communication link. Insulators can also be found in the collections at Cape Schanck; Cape Otway and Gabo Island. Comprises a white ceramic insulator attached to a rectangular metal plate.

According to Frank Wright Alex was a great impersonator with a unique range Bass - tenor with many accents (not unlike Peter Dawson) "AUSTRALIAN KILLED An Australian, Alexander Wright, radio variety star, who toured Europe and Australia under the pseudonym of Navarre, was killed during a recent air raid in a Midland . town. His broth-er, Frank Wright, is musical director for the London County council."(Border Morning Mail, 22 Oct 1940) Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Melbourne Tramway & Omnibus Co. Bell Punch No. D382. A heavy nickel plated steel ticket or fare strip cancelling / registering mechanism used on Melbourne cable trams. When a fare was sold, the bell would ring advising the passenger that their fare have registered. "An ingenious device resembling in principle the ticket punch of a railway porter. It is carried by the conductor who wears pinned to his coat a 'trip-slip'. He punches this once for every fare received; the action is simultaneously registered on a dial inside the punch and bell rings to appraise the passenger of the fact. The punch is provided with a patent lock, the secret of which is known only at headquarters and effective system of check is thus secured." M1 Steel helmet used onboard HMAS Kanimbla. These M1Steel helmets were first issued in 1941 to the United States Armed Forces. They were adopted after the Korean War by the Australian Defence Force. In the 1990s they were replaced by the Kevlar based Personnel Armour System-Ground Troop (PASGT) type helmet. However, as evidenced by this helmet, some M1 Steel helmets were not replaced in-service by the PASGT helmet and survived into the early 21st Century. Interestingly, the Nato Stock Number (NSN) printed on the inside of the helmet liner indicates that this helmet was made for a Bulgarian contract, as evidenced by the NSN National code of 50 in the second group of numbers in the stock number. HMAS Kanimbla (LPA-51) was built for the United States Navy as USS Saginaw and was launched on 7 February 1970. Kanimbla was commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy in August 1994. Kanimbla was heavily involved in Operation Slipper conducting a variety of tasks such as patrol, mine recovery. During Operation Slipper, Kanimbla also conducted 27 compliant boardings and 23 non-compliant boardings in the Persian Gulf in 2001-2.Standard issue United States M1 pattern steel helmet, olive drab in colour with liner. A porthole, sometimes called bull's-eye window or bull's-eye, is a circular window used on the hull of ships to admit light and air. Though the term is of maritime origin, it is also used to describe round windows on armoured vehicles, aircraft, automobiles (the Ford Thunderbird a notable example) and even spacecraft. On a ship, the function of a porthole, when open, is to permit light and fresh air to enter the dark and often damp below-deck quarters of the vessel. It also affords below-deck occupants a limited view to the outside world. When closed, the porthole provides a strong water-tight, weather-tight and sometimes light-tight barrier (not in the case however). A porthole on a ship may also be called a side scuttle (side hole), as officially termed in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. This term is used in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. It is also used in related rules and regulations for the construction of ships. The use of the word "side scuttle" instead of "porthole" is meant to be broad, including any covered or uncovered hole in the side of the vessel. This porthole is a useful demonstration of naval technology to give people an insight into life at see. Sir William St Clair founded Rosslyn Chapel in 1446. It is located south of Edinburgh, Scotland. St Clair hoped to spread intellectual and spiritual knowledge and to ensure his place in Heaven. Rosslyn Chapel is a fine example of stonemason's work. It has many atropaic marks and mason's marks with other symbolism adorning it's structure as well. Excavations in the 1800s uncovered further foundations and building but Sir William died and the larger building was never completed. The village of Roslin (differing spelling) grew up around the estate and chapel due to the large number of craftsmen who helped build it over a 40 year period. William St Clair was the 3rd Prince of Orkney. He died in 1484. His name and the names of his descendants are linked to the beginnings of freemasonry in Scotland. Sir William Sinclair of Rosslyn was granted charters from the Masons of Scotland in 1630.The author Dan Brown who published the Da Vinci Code in 2003 is responsible for the upsurge in interest and visitors at the centre. This portable, hand held visual signalling lamp was used for optical communication via Morse code. It comprises the metal encased Aldis lamp with electrical cord and its associated green-painted, hinged wooden carrying case, which has a metal clasp and leather hand grip. Larger versions of these lamps are fixed on ships or pedestals and have shutters on the front that are opened and closed to transmit signals. Smaller hand held versions like the Point Hicks example have a concave mirror that is tilted to focus the light into pulse signals via a trigger. The lamps were pioneered by the British navy in the late nineteenth century and continue to be used to the present day.317 Details on the Point Hicks lamp include a serial number and other information. Another Aldis lamp and case remaining at Cape Nelson Lightstation dates to 1960 and has the initials of the Department of Transport, which at that time incorporated the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service. Wilsons Promontory also has an Aldis lamp and case that dates from around the same year. A lamp formerly at Cape Schanck has disappeared. This bracelet was sent by a seafarer Mariner Merrilees while in Australia in the 1940s to his sister Marjorie, who lived on Manitoulin Island, Canada. The bracelet was received in a Mission to Seamen Christmas Greetings cardboard box in 1943.This bracelet was inherited by the donor, and kindly donated to the current collection of the Mission to Seafarers Victoria. This world war 2 era gift of a bracelet is significant in not only demonstrating the international significance to seafarers of the various Missions to seamen who facilitated contacts with family as illustrated by the gift box but in this instance the gift is also of historic numismatic interest. 19 Silver Peruvian ½ Dino coins made in 1902 linked to be used as a bracelet. This clear ‘gallon’ type liquor bottle has been handmade by a glassblower from 1840s-1870s. The bottle was found in the coastal waters of Victoria about 100 years from when it was made. It is part of the John Chance Collection. This bottle was made in a three part mould. The lower part was cylindrical, with a post in the centre that had an interchangeable mould with the embossed number in it. The sides of the mould gently tapering to the base, which allowed for ease of removing. The upperpart was in two pieces, one each side of the neck. The moth-blown glass formed the shape of the inside of the mould. The bottle was broken off the end of the glassblower’s pipe. Once removed from the mould the base was trimmed smooth. The mouth was then finished with the lip – there were many different styles of ‘applied’ lips, depending on the glassblower or his customer’s needs. This bottle would have been sealed with a cork. The surface of the bottle is a little bumpy and has bubbles, due to the blowing process. The meaning of the inscription is unclear. Perhaps it is a code for the bottle’s design, the date made or the maker. The bottle’s shape was referred to a ‘gallon’; six of these bottles would contain a total of a gallon of liquid. The bottle holds approximately 750 ml. Although the bottle is not linked to a particular shipwreck, it is recognised as being historically significant as an example of bottles imported for use in Colonial Victoria in the mid-to-late 1800s. The bottle is also significant as it was recovered by John Chance, a diver in Victoria’s coastal waters in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Items that come from several wrecks have since been donated to the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village’s museum collection by his family, illustrating this item’s level of historical value.
