Girton College began as a private school in 1884 and was named after the first female residential college at Cambridge. Just prior to WW1, ownership and control was handed to the Anglican Church. In 1992 the church announced it would be closing the college for financial reasons. A group of volunteers stepped in to establish Girton Grammar School.Softcover book. In the early of the nineteenth century, The sealers took cargoes of up to 100,000 skins per ship. Within 10 years, there were virtually no seals left. Today, the seals are returning to Bass Strait and colonies of them are thriving around the five BHP and Esso offshore production platforms. We enjoy having them around. Linda Blundell was employed by the Presbytery of Maribyrnong Valley, arranged by the Presbytery Minister of the time, the Rev. Brace Bateman. She was employed to work with Broadmeadows families, in particular with those who had got into financial difficulties through excessive borrowing and the somewhat unscrupulous advertising tactics of some businesses. Built in 1861 on land made available by Mr. Robert Allen. Grant received through municipal council and State Government. Building functioned as a library until 1926. Taken over by Buninyong Cemetery Trust and eventually fell into serious disrepair. Restored in the 1980s after great community effort, dedication and financial contributions.An important early building in the township noted for its unusual and individual classical facade of Oregon pine. This collection of photo albums is from the 1990s and was collected by staff. Photographs include staff and patients in midwifery and the nursery. Photographs are not named.
