In 1986 SOFUY (Servicing Opportunities for Unemployed Youth) was established by Ballarat Diocesan Family Services (later Centacare). This Mosaic art work was created by unemployed youth involved in the program 1986-87 and featured on the wall of the organisation's office at Ballarat's St Patrick's Hall. Bishop Foley of Ballarat accompanied his cousin Archbishop Daniel Mannix of Melbourne on his visit to Rome via the USA and England when Mannix was taken from the ship by British arrest in the Irish Sea and placed under house to prevent his visiting Ireland. Foley spoke at rallies across the USA as did Mannix. Images in this album record stages on the sea voyage and scenes of family in Ireland as Foley continued to his planned destination.One of many images taken on the SS Baltic c.1920 in the Foley album.

Image of Fr J. McInerney, former RAAF chaplain, Chaplain to CYMS and chaplain to Caroline Chisolm Migrant Hostel Creswick in the 1950s - 60s. Fr McInerney was long time parish priest at Creswick. He was made Monsignor later served as editor of the Ballarat Diocesan Journal "Light".

The Catholic temperance movement started in 1838 when Irish priest Fr Theobald Mathew established the Teetotal Abstinence Society in 1838. Fr Patrick Henneberry founded the Catholic Temperance movement in the USA and visited Australia in 1897 winning Australian Catholics to his cause. These medals were worn by Catholics who had taken a pledge of abstinence pictured on the reverse side of the medal.

Beginning in 1877 as a breakaway from the Ancient Order of Foresters the Irish National Foresters were established in Australia before 1890. By 1914 the INF had spread worldwide and with a quarter of a million members in over 1,000 branches. The Ballarat branch whose presidential chair the image is of was Branch No 20.Irish National Foresters Branch No 20 in gilt shadowed signwriting on pediment.

This small country church was refurbished and opened on April 3rd 1960. It is typical of small rural churches across western Victoria surviving from early in the century and modified for new liturgical rubrics following Vatican II later in the 1960s.

The surplice is a liturgical vestment in the form of a tunic of white linen or cotton fabric, reaching to the knees, with wide or moderately wide sleeves. The lower segment is usually lace or lace trimmed. In this case it is hand crocheted. Here too the cuffs of the sleeves are lace trimmed backed with red silk to denote the rank of the wearer, in this case a bishop.

McAuley College was established at Dooboobetic in 1977 as a Catholic consolidated secondary college bringing together secondary catholic students from Donald, St Arnaud and Charlton in Victoria's Wimmera. A new school was built on a 23-acre site at Dooboobetic constructed from mostly portable classrooms among wheat fields, five minutes from the Gooroc church. The college served the north-west from Wycheproof to Wedderburn. 1953 was declared the Marian Year and the Ballarat City oval saw a crowd of 30,000 gather for a Rosary Crusade to round out the year of celebrations. The occasion was attended by the Mayor Cr Cutts and other dignitaries and featured in Diocesan Journal Light in February 1954.Fatima Statue visit pencilled on back of image.

The Guild of St Stephen is an International Organisation of Altar Servers founded in England in 1904 by Father Hamilton McDonald when he formed a Society of Altar Servers at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in London. In 1934, Pope Pius XI enabled all Guilds of Altar Servers throughout the British Commonwealth to be affiliated with the Archconfraternity at Westminster. Rev. Dr Delaney advocated for the formation of the Ballarat CYMS. Curtin and Scullin being members and learning their debating skills there. The Diocese of Ballarat advocated the development of the Young Christian Workers', YCW, over the CYMS from the 1940's onward as there was a stronger spiritual development base. While there are earlier examples, this is one example of a parish based youth magazine from the organisation in the diocese of Ballarat. Prominent in this YCW group was former Victorian politician Frank Sheehan and local Shire President John Parkin. Bungaree parish had very active parish youth organisations with published journals dating back to the 1930s.
