Butter dish, Victorian Butter Shell, c. 1895

Presented to Dr Higgins as Bishop of Rockhampton before his translation to Ballarat. This presentation piece evidences Bishop Higgins' work around Australia in the late 19th and early 20th century and his administrative moves.

Physical description

Victorian Silver Plated folding scallop design warming/biscuit dish, having a hand-chased oval body with grape and vine leaves decoration and plane silver border sitting inside a rustic cast frame with cast feet. c.1890.

Inscriptions & markings

Inscribed- To the Right Rev Dr Higgins from his grateful children the Pupils of Rosebank Sept 2nd 1899.
Makers Mark for Walker and Hall underneath dish.
