Koch's Pioneer Quartz Mining and Crushing Company, No Liability Long Gully Bendigo Share Certificate. Distinctive Numbers 48164 to 48213 in the name of William Grattan of St Kilda. Certificate Number 2930. Dated 7th December 1911. Signed by ?, Hugh Boyd, Directors and J. H. Craig, Manager. On the back is a map of the lease showing where the shaft is and a measurement of 450 yards from one side of the lease to the other beside the shaft. The lease is an irregular shape. As a member of the Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society, donor Arthur ROWAN photographed a series of significant buildings in the Port and South Melbourne area over several years. A selection of nineteen of these was presented to the Port Melbourne Society in 1993.Small print mounted on white card, with mounted, typed caption: Drinking Fountain, Beach Street PM [Sinclair Parade] This memorial was erected by public subscription in honor of Frederick W MASKELL and James McNAB, the former engineer aged 46 and the latter fireman 21 years, who lost their lives through devotion to duty in an accident on Victorian Railways near Windsor on the 11th of May 1887. In about 1888 William George Ashman (1871-11/2/1944) began a tailoring business in High Street, Eaglehawk. In 1890 he admitted his brother Arthur Thomas Ashman to the business and they traded as Ashman Brothers. In 1936 the company of Ashman and sons was registered at 265 Hargreaves Street. They specialised in made to measure, hand tailored suits. William married Clara Hunkin (1871-25/11/1944) in 1894. Item belonged to Mrs Eileen Pascoes father Arthur Castleton Clarke VX79039. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 5.5.42 and on discharge from the Army he was a Sapper in No 20 Australian Maintenance PL RAE. Refer 528.2, 530, 531. Her Grandfather William David Maher No 68 enlisted in the AIF 10.9.14 in the 8th L.H Regt A Sqd. Embarked for overseas 25.2.15 then for Gallipoli 16.5.15. He was hospitalised 5 times including Dysentry, Malaria and Pnuemonia. He was discharged from the AIF on 23.3.19. Refer 529, 533.2. All items referred to are Trench Art.Ashtray, brass, silver/chrome plated. Base is from a possible 4" Shell with 3 'U' shaped metal pieces to hold cigarettes. Edith Sarah Pickford was born and raised in Clunes, Victoria. She is the only daughter of John Pickford and Betsey (Robbins) Pickford and sister of Henry Pickford, John Pickford, William Harold Pickford, Horace Pickford DCM, Arthur Pickford and Charles Alexander Pickford. [ Research by Edith;s granduaghter Jane Dyer (nee Chatham)] Edith's maternal grandmother was a descendent of Donald Cameron, the first recorded European settler in the Clunes area.The Pickford family's pioneer settler legacy in the Clunes- Glendaruel district is commemorated with a Pickford Road and displays in the Clunes Museum. A collection of Edith's song music was donated to the Clunes Museum by her great grand-daughter in 2023. Edith married a local farmer, Henry Smerdon Holmes from "Sauchieburn" Ascot, Victoria. Henry was a descendant of the family who had inherited their maternal ancestor's, Catherine Coghill (nee Holmes), Ascot - Coghills Creek property. This branch of the Coghill Family descended from the district's pioneer settler, Captain Coghill. Edith and Henry spent all their married life, and raised 4 children Jack [John], Bill [William], [Mary] Elizabeth and David, at Ascot. She was buried in the Coghills Creek Cemetery with her husband, Henry Smerdon Holmes, and their son, David, in 1967.
