Frankston RSL Sub BranchMedallion, ANZAC, Government issue, 50th Anniversary of Gallipoli Medallion
Circular bronze medallion surmounted by the Queen's crown. Obverse depicts Simpson and his donkey assisting a wounded man, a laurel wreath, the date '1915' and the word 'ANZAC'. Reverse depicts a map of Australia and New Zealand with the Southern Cross superimposed, fern fronds and the engraved name of the recipient 'G. R. GRIFFITH'. This medallion is in its original presentation case. The Anzac Medallion was issued by the Australian government in 1967 to commemorate the 1965 50th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. The medallion was issued to surviving veterans of the campaign or their next of kin. The jet, named The City of Bendigo, took the mayor, and six other Bendigonians, from Avalon to Sydney, including a cruise over Melbourne. The Bendigo party were also guests of Qantas at the then modern Wentworth Hotel. Elaine Mann was married to David Mann, a successful Wodonga businessman and community leader who passed away in Wodonga in June 2012. David was a member of the Mann family who began their business in Wodonga in 1920. Elaine was a teacher in Wodonga for many years and an active member of the community.This photo collection is of significance as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the late 20th century.This was Wodonga's second police station, built in 1900. It was built on High Street, next to Bond Street. The Court House can be seen in the background. The building was formerly used as a custom-house or bond store where people paid import duties on goods coming into Victoria from other states, including N.S.W. This is reflected in the street name. The Court House was destroyed by fire in 1964. This police station was in use until a move was made into a new police station in Elgin Street (next to Elgins Hotel) in December 1967. Balfour has asked the Department's Geologist located at Bendigo to prepare a report on the Victoria Hill area. The Minister also points out that there are conflicting interests which exists between local municipal authorities who are seeking to have mine damaged areas reclaimed for recreation or developmental projects, while some would like the past relics preserved for historical interests among tourists. Eltham Plumbing Supplies (Lennie Whiteway Plumbing) located on the right side of the street. It later became the Eltham Bookshop and sold cane ware as well. On the corner with Main Road is the local branch of the State Bank of Victoria. The building still stands and is the present day Westpac bank branch. A yellow board with black texts in two paragraphs about 5RAR's Mascot5RAR was raised on the 1st March 1965 and it was decreed that its colours would be black and gold. Due to this decree, the tiger was adopted as the unit mascot partly because it's traits included aggressiveness, courage, stealth and team work, all of which were desireable qualities for an infantry battalion. Prior to the battalion completing it's first tour in May 1967, MAJ John Miller of the advance party had arranged with the Director of the Taronga Park Zoo for a Sumatran tiger cub to be known as Quintus, to meet the battalion when arrived at Garden Island on board the HMAS Sydney 12th May 1967. The cub was enlisted on the day (regimental numer TF005) then marched with the battalion through the streets of Sydney. the current battalion mascot is a Bengal Tiger named Quintus Rama enlisted 27th Sept 2012.5 rar, mascot, poster, information board -

Invocation and Lord's Prayer, Rev W Bennett. (President of Ministers Association) 2. National Anthem 3. Prayer for the King, Queen, and the Royal Family Rev. L W Lee. O! God who rulest over Thy people in love, we beseech Thee to bless Thy Servant, our King, that under him this nation may be wisely governed, and Thy Church may serve Thee in all godly quietness, Grant that the King, the Prince, and the people, being devoted to these with all their hearts, and preserving in good works to the end, may, by Thy guidance, come to Thine everlasting Kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 4. Hymn- 'All people that on Earth do Dwell' All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. John Fletcher (1857-19/10/1903) was a shift boss at the Hustler's Mine. Formerly from Sebastian, he came to Bendigo in 1899. He married Eliz. Hinchcliff in 1881 and they lived in Job's Gully. He was a member of the Bendigo Miner's Association and often subscribed to the Bendigo Independent newspaper, which sent Mrs Fletcher a gift of 25 pounds in appreciation. He was killed in a mining accident at Hustler's Mine.Paper certificate mounted on card presented to Mrs Fletcher and family from Hustlers No. 1 mine, upon the death of John Fletcher in a mine accident.
