Used for carrying medical supplies.Canvas carry bag. Inside a series of pockets and slots to carry various items. Fold over lid to close pack via two metal studs. A shoulder strap on top of bag connected to bag by 2 metal rings. Strap is broken. Two small copper studs at bottom of bag and one larger. The card was sent by James Henry Wicks to his sister, unknown. After serving in the 7th Batt, J H Wicks transfered to the 5th Machine Gun Batt AIF in France. Tawonga Bowling Club is well established with many local men and women involved. Bowling is a popular sport enabling locals to socialise and compete with each other and visit other clubs. Players formed teams representing the Tawonga Club and traveled to other clubs and on occasion represented their area eg. Rouen, a medieval city was heavily damaged by Allied bombings during the Battle of Normandy. Sergeant Payne was selected as one of three representatives from the 8th Light Horse to a review of the King's Banners presented to Australian regiments following the South African campaign. The review was held 14 November 1904. The Banner is now on display in the History Room of the 8/13th Victorian Mounted rifles, Simpson Barracks , Melbourne.Strong connections to other objects in the 8/13 VMR collection.Black and white photograph of soldier wearing helmet and holding mace.
