Samuel Keam (1851-1928) was the son of John Keam and Mary Truscott of Eaglehawk. He was a keen bike rider who challenged many other riders to races in the Bendigo area. He also rode in professional races. He eventually opened his bicycle shop in Williamson Street. He married Mary Jane Wheatley in 1873. Coleman family and home, Coleman’s Corner, Eltham, c.1909 L-R: Tom Newton (school teacher and nephew of Mrs Coleman), Mary Agnes Coleman (later Mrs Dawes 1904-1957), Mrs Mary Ann Coleman nee Bourke (1877-1927); mother of Jack (John Lawrence 1895-1969), George Lawrence (1906-1953) and Mary Agnes (1904-1957). John (Jack) Coleman was father of John Jnr and father in law to Margaret (nee Dare). The cottage was located on a bend of Wattletree Rd near Main Road. Built about 1905 and later extended. Document. Newspaper Article - Mr J W Faul, J. P. Newspaper article from 'Bendigo Advertiser' dated Saturday Feb 3 1917, reporting on the death of Mr John William Faul, J. P. He was born in 1849 London. He worked in the publishing room of the 'Bendigo Advertiser' c1863 - 1865. Was an apprentice plumber and was later foreman on the Hepburn Mineral Water Supply Works at the age of 20. In 1871 he opened a shop in Williamson St, later Williamson St and then Hargreaves St until a fire on 21 Dec 1912 destroyed his business. In 1891 he was gazetted a Justice of the Peace. In 1902 he contested the South Sandhurst Seat, narrowly missing out. A 1939 booklet of nursery rhymes designed to inspire Australian children with their own fairy stories. Olga Dorothea Agnes Ernst published the rhymes under her married name Waller. This copy was presumably used by Helen Gibson in her pre-school teaching and was donated to the society as part of her collection of materials.Stapled booklet with cardboard covers and twenty-four pages, containing lyrics and music to ten songs composed by Olga D. A. Waller M. A. (words) and Jean M. Fraser (music). The songs, described as "Mountain nursery rhymes" are all concerned with the Dandenong Ranges.In ink on flyleaf: To dear Rita, With love. Believed to be L-R: Arthur Samuel (1878-1907), Agnes Shillinglaw (nee McIntosh 1852-1931) with Agnes Mary (1881-1968), Samuel Shillinglaw (1848-1925). At the time of the birth of Arthur Samuel in 1878, Samuel was resident at Benalla, Victoria. The Portland Stevedoring Company took over from the "Pier Spring Trust" in 1923. Members of the new company were: W.S. Williamson, Solicitor; Capt. D.W. Hislop, Harbour Master, C.V. Parkinson, Borthwicks Manager. The Portland Stevedoring Company serviced about 3 vessels, and was then taken over by the Victorian Stevedoring Company. They were responsible for servicing vessels.
