Badge - Life Member Wodonga Swimming Pool Committee - Grace Emery, 1991
Mrs Barbara Emery, born in Beechworth in 1914 was one of the original members of the Wodonga community who formed a Committee and lobbied for the building of a swimming pool in Wodonga. This was prompted after many near misses and a drowning at the popular swimming spot in Wodonga Creek. She and her husband Bob, along with other Committee members lobbied the Wodonga Council and were finally able to negotiate land which fronted onto Stanley Street, Wodonga. Members of the Committee worked tirelessly to fund raise and also to build the pool itself. Countless working bees were organised to complete the construction and surrounds. The pool opened on 12th December 1959. Mr Bob Emery became the manager and Grace ran the kiosk for many years. Later reflecting on her life in the Wodonga community Mrs Emery stated, “To get the pool was a highlight in my life, the satisfaction that we could save lives.” After years of heated discussion about the future of the Stanley Street pool and the construction of a new pool, it finally closed on 31 March 2012. Mrs Emery died in Wodonga. This membership badge is significant because it was awarded to a member of the Wodonga community to recognise her service.A gold plated and enamelled badge attached to a red enamelled bar. The badge is engraved on the front. On bar;- LIFE MEMBER On badge; 1991 GRACE EMERYgrace emery, wodonga swimming pool, life membership grace emery -

New South Wales was admitted to the League the following year, Western Australia in 1918. In 1927, the Australian Capital Territory formed a branch and was admitted. Badge, Manchester Unity IOOF
This badge has been issued by the Victorian branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of OddFellows. This is a benefit society owned by members who assist other members in times of illness or unemployment. Originally founded in Manchester, England, the M.U.I.O.O.F. started in Melbourne in 1840. The Warrnambool branch was founded in 1860. This badge has no known local provenance but Warrnambool members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. would probably have worn such a badge in the past so it is kept as a memento of those times.Gold metal badge in a shield shape with royal blue enamel with text as a banner across the top and again at the bottom . Badge School Carnival, Circa 1970
This badge represents a period in time when a School Carnival was not only a major School activity but also had a community "spirit" attached to it. It represents the balance between the metal (learning) and the physical (body) development of the student body. This balance of the growing student has been in existence for centuries. Although some students excel in the academic side of schooling others balance this through the sporting/physical side of "school life" This balance is mirrored in the overall Australian society. From the late 1990's the highly lucrative "professional" sports have provided a highly monetary incentive for those excelling in the physical side of society. The Mount Beauty High School has not only provided outstanding academics but also sports professionals. It has and is still producing a cross section of outstanding Australian men and women. Although the local environment (rural) has limited opportunities for further scholastical and professional sporting achievements it is a vital facility in the student's development for the ever changing Australian society. This yellow coloured, round "lapel" badge is made from mild steel (tin). It has a safety pin shaped around a hole and running horizontal it can be pressed into a "U" shaped hole for fastening onto any material (blazer or shirt). On the front of the badge (in smaller green coloured print) and following the round shape of the badge is "MOUNT BEAUTY HIGH SCHOOL". In the middle portion of the badge, and in larger print "CARNIVAL". Below this in smaller print again is "21st MARCH 1970"high school education, metal school badges, school sports -
