The donor received the projector from a relative. He used it in the City of Whitehorse and surrounding areasWaterworth Slide Film Strip Projector, Model A - 300 watt, without a fan but with ventilating slots on top and an open bottom for air to flow. It has a carrying handle and a power lead with 3 pin plug which is wired in permanently. The projector lamp is at rear under the carrying handle. Image is projected through three stage lens via via the image on the 35mm strip or slide. The front lens is adjustable for focus. A knurled nut enables a height adjustment at front. Slides are inserted through the holder - whilst one slide is shown the other can be loaded ready to be slid in front of the light. The film strip holder is missing. The unit is finished in a grey hammer finish paint used in 1960 t0 1980s. The operating instructions are filed in the supplementary envelope. A Luther College Year 10 essay which researches the history of George Maxwell Walker (1924 - 1944). A pilot with the R.A.A.F. who spent much of his flying days with the British R.A.F. At the time of his death his squadron was carrying out anti-submarine patrols and internal security in and around the Middle East. He was the son of George Walker and grandson of Edgar and Myra Walker, owners of Australia Tesselated Tile Company. The George Walker family lived in Harrison St, Mitcham. The first of the Vermont Primary School buildings was erected on 1872. In 1907 a room was built onto the west side of the building and a new classroom and cloakroom were erected in 1922. Due to rising numbers and traffic volume, Vermont Progress Association urged the government to relocate the school buildings to a less prominent site, and new school buildings were erected in Nurlendi Street in the 1950's. Marjorie Morgan noticed a beautiful wood carving of gumleaves and gumnuts by John Blogg. The carving, donated by a Box Hill resident, is in the impressive art collection of the City of Whitehorse. The more Marjorie researched the more she felt his achievements should not be permitted to disappear into the mists of time.
