Brought to the Ovens Goldfields by Chinese men working in the area in the 19th century. Most likely made in China.Aldo Gios recorded the location of where most of the pieces in this collection were found. Some maps drawn by Aldo Gios also give more detail. This detail is rare, as most pieces of broken crockery were discarded and complete items were usually collected with no thought to recording the location they came from. This is part of a 'fish warrior' costume.This upper garment is significant for its links to the Chinese Young League. The League was formally established on 4 October 1932 to to promote free social intercourse and goodwill among its members and their mutual improvement. Membership was open to all persons, with one or both parents or grandparents born in China. Wives of Chinese members were permitted as members with the same privileges. Edward O’Donnell's service as a St. Kilda Councillor included six terms as mayor. The dinner, held by the City of St Kilda at the George hotel on 10 October 1928, celebrated his 40 years of service. The program includes a record of his service, the menu, toasts, and autographs of people who attended. Postcard from WWI soldier William West (1268) of the 29 Infantry Battalion, 5th Pioneers Battalion while posted in France to his family at home.Embroidered silk postcards were first made in 1900 for the Paris Exposition. This clock was owned by Mr Bruce Scott, the late husband of the donor. Mr Scott studied wool classing at the Melbourne Technical College in the 1930s. It is not known how this clock came to be in his possession. The clock was presented to Mr W. The owner was Rita Fletcher; many locals and relatives inscribed their autographs , drew or painted pictures and , using their best calligraphy, wrote up humorous verses. In addition the book includes news clippings on the sensation of the day, the story “Will you be my woolly aphid?” which tells of a Harcourt youth who put a marriage proposal in a barrel of apples consigned to England. These labels come from the Warrnambool Reeves Cordial Factory. John Reeves came to Warrnambool about 1900 and managed the cordial bottling plant in Banyan Street for Jim Kelly who traded under the name of the previous cordial manufacturer, J. S. Rowley. In 1931 John Reeves purchased the cordial factory in Koroit Street from the estate of John Fletcher. John Reeves’ son, Reg managed the cordial business in Koroit Street until 1946 when he took over from his father and carried on the business until his death in 1972. In 1977 Reeves’ son-in-law carried on the business under the trading name of Reeves. The building in Koroit Street that stands today was erected in 1957 when the original building was demolished. This book was awarded to Mary Annie Frances Proctor in 1878 for first prize in needlework in the third form. Mary, (D.O.B. 5/8/1860), entered the Ballarat College with her sister, Catherine, on the 23rd January, 1878. They resided at 83 Windemere Street South. Mary left the school in Christmas of 1878. Catherine left the Christmas of 1879.During 1877 - 1891 Ballarat College accepted enrolments from female students. The school holds the original register of this period and notes that Mary Proctor entered the school in 1878 when she was 14.
