Book, Penguin et al, The three trillion dollar war the true cost of the Iraq Conflict, 2009
Discusses about the true cost of the Iraq war - quite apart from its tragic human toll - which the Bush administration estimated at $50 billion. This book argues that this underestimates the real figure by approximately six times. It attempts to expose the gigantic expenses which have not been officially accounted for. Stiglitz and Bilmes write in simple language, which makes the details they present, and the sums they add up, all the more disturbing.Index, notes, p.357.non-fictionDiscusses about the true cost of the Iraq war - quite apart from its tragic human toll - which the Bush administration estimated at $50 billion. Maude Jeffries was an acclaimed actress who performed in USA, Britain, New Zealand and Australia from the 1890s until the early twentieth century when she married and settled in New South Wales with her husband on his property, Bowylie, Gundaroo, New South Wales. A rare bookmark produced to act also as a postcard relating to an American actress who as a British citizen settled in Australian. This bookmark sent in 1906 from Melbourne to Ballarat in Victoria demonstrates her popularity in Australia where it was estimated that over Christmas New Year 1906 over 200,000 postcards were sold in Sydney alone.Image of Miss Jeffries.Used with two Victorian postage stamps, address and Seasons Greetings inscribed to verso from Melbourne sender to Tattersalls Hotel Ballarat 1906.bookmark, postcard, maude jeffries, actress, australian, ballarat, tattersalls hotel, melbourne -

Film, West Surrey Family History Society, Return of Owners of Land Worcestershire, England 1873, 1990s
The Return of Owners of Land, 1873 for Worcestershire provides a fascinating glimpse into land ownership during the Victorian era. It lists landowners with holdings of one acre or more, detailing the size and estimated rental value of their properties. This survey was part of a broader effort to address concerns about land monopolies and to provide transparency about land distribution. For Worcestershire, the records highlight the disparities in land ownership, with a small number of individuals owning vast estates while many others held smaller plots. The survey also includes information about common lands and waste lands in the county.Set of 1 microfiche non-fictionThe Return of Owners of Land, 1873 for Worcestershire provides a fascinating glimpse into land ownership during the Victorian era.
