The three 1887 coins represent the coins in use at the start of the horse tram operations in Ballarat and would have been used to pay for tickets. The 1911 coin was minted one year after Commonwealth Government started to mint Australian coins. Black and white photograph of ESCo. tram No. 18. Date unknown, but post 1912, as windscreens for the driver have been fitted and tram converted for one man operation. Does not appear to have track brakes. Has "Suttons Pianos & Players." advertisement on roof side. This ad was used as the basis for the roof ads on the Horse Tram. Weather blinds - one in rolled up position, the other rolled down. Photo taken to illustrate this? Black and white postcard of an electric tram towing a heavily loaded former horse tram trailer in Sturt St Ballarat. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tram does not have any destination box above the driver. Possibly summer 1905/1906. Numerous people in the street, some horse drawn vehicles in the photograph. Functional Object - Tramcar, Duncan and Fraser and Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society, Horse Tram No 1, 1887 - original, reconstruction 1986-1992
A double deck horse drawn tram with single saloon. drop ends, stairs, longitudinal seats, sliding doors, wheels of cast iron, hand brakes - see notes. Originally built by Duncan & Fraser in 1887. Rebuilt by BTPS 1991. From the BTM Fleet page on the website: Built in 1887 by Duncan and Fraser for the Ballaarat Tramway Company Ltd. as a double-decked horse tramcar. One of eight cars which ran as trailers behind electric trams at times of heavy patronage, after takeover and conversion of the horse lines by the Electric Supply Company of Victoria Ltd. in 1905. Withdrawn in the late 1920's when the body shell became a residential outbuilding locally, until retrieved in 1985. Fully reconstructed to its original form and placed on a modified Melbourne saloon cable car truck. See attached notestrams, horse trams, tram 1 -

Yields information about a Australian Electric Traction Association tour to Ballarat, Golden Jubilee Tour, August 1955 and Ballarat tramcars.An 8 page, duplicated souvenir brochure for AETA tour of Ballarat Trams, on 20/8/55 with brief history, itinerary, map, tram car notes. Gives details of the itinerary for the trip using a 280HP Rail car trip with the forward portion via North Geelong. Duplicated using the Gestetner process. Note the knowledge of the time, with horse tram bodies being reused to form some of the early ESCo. trams. Second copy from donation of the Tom Murray Estate added 25-11-2016 and 3rd copy from Keith Kings papers added 19-3-2017.
