In 2014 Federation University Australia was formed with the merger of University of Ballarat and Monash University Gippsland Campus. Although formally created as a university in 1994, the University of Ballarat had a lineage back to 1870 with the establishment of the Ballarat School of Mines. With campuses from Horsham in the west of the state, to Churchill in the east, the name Federation University Austalia was chosen to convey the scope and capacity of an expanded regional university with a federation network of campuses contributing to a new and different Australian university.Hard copy and pdf of the 2014 Federation University Australia Annual Report. federation university annual report, paul hemming, david battersby, monash university gippsland campus, gippsland campus, university of ballarat, dennis napthine, pam sutcliffe, peter hall, robert ayton, don johns, stuart berzins, lyndel ward, adelaina horner, alison mcrae, mashelle parrett, steve davies, tony stone, ian nethercote, peter wilson, michael ryan, george fong, deborah spring, kim dowling, karen douglas, todd walker, meredith doig, marcia devlin, darren holland, andy smith, frank stagnitti, john blair, graeme ambrose, rowena coutts, john dixon, bernard o'meara, vicku rethuis -

Photograph - Colour photograph, Former Ballarat Gaol Gates, 24/04/2017
The main gate to the former Gaol is a monumental work. The arch keystone facing Lydiard Street is beautifully executed. The gates and the iron lacework over the top are distinctive. The arch under the flyover is also distinctive; the basalt keystone appears to have been cut from one single block of stone. Most of the gaol has been demolished to allow the School of Mines Ballarat to expand onto the site. The remaining structures at the site include the main gate, warden's residence and governor's residence. The E.J. Tippett Librocate.ary is named after the late E.J. Tippett who was a long time President of the Ballarat School of Mines Council, and library advocate. In February 1985, the first sod for the new SMB Campus building was turned by the Minister for Planning and the Environment, the Hon. Evan Walker, M.P. The overall responsibility for the building rested with the Public Works Department in association with the SMB Campus architect, Ewan Jones & Associates and the builder, S. J. Weir Pty. Ltd. They put together the facility that is both functional and of a style that merges with the surrounding architecture. The new building opened in 1986.Colour photographs showing the exterior of the E.J.
