Leaving Point Cook airbase conducting a low visibility cross-country flight at 11.05 am on 12 April 1942 an A25 Airspeed Oxford crashed 5 kilometres from Beech Forest. The pilot, Sergeant T.W. Penn, and two pupils, LAC R.E. Johnston and LAC J.R. Black, were killed. Every enlisted in July 1915, and sailed for Egypt in January 1916, and his imminent return home wounded. Private S. H. R. Elliott No. 782, K.I.A. April 25 1915, aged 28 years. Son of the late Mr. & Mrs George Elliott of Peg leg Road Eaglehawk, enlisted in August 1914 and embarked from Melbourne. N. S. Draper enlisted at the same time. 'Whitehall' Cenotaph in Charing Cross. It was the idea of Colonel Sir George Lansell who approached Lady Emily Lutyens - trustee in the estate of her late husband, Sir Edwin Lutyens, who designed the Whitehall Cenotaph - requesting permission to erect a monument on similar lines in Bendigo, and outlining the reasons. Permission was readily granted. It was a replica constructed in Stawell stone and is the only replica of the Whitehall Cenotaph to be erected in any part of the world. It was unveiled by the Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria, Sir Edmund Herring, K.C.M.G., K.B.E., K.St.J., D.S.O., E.D., M.A., D.C.L. Edith Cavell was an English nurse based in Belgium who had been killed by German officers for conspiring to help in the escape of allied soldiers. This work is a plaster maquette of a large memorial marble bust by Margaret Baskerville that is located at Kings Domain on Birdwood Avenue, Melbourne. The following pages are carbon copy records of work completed for each customer, recording date and description of work along with price. The pages are printed with the numbers 01 to 99 in the top right-hand corner. Pages 01 to 94 have been used. Pages 95 to 99 are blank.
