This is an early 20th century example of a chronograph, a watch with stopwatch functions. Chronographs date from the early 19th century and were used particularly in aviation, astronomy, diving, automobile and other racing contests and artillery firing and with more sophisticated designs are still used today.This item has no known local provenance but is retained for display purposes because of its age and its exceptional qualityThis is a chronograph, a display watch which also has a stopwatch function. It has a white face with black markings and Roman numerals and a gauge around the outer circle with numbers from 0 to 300. The face is covered with a glass frame. One hand and its pin are loose in the glass. The watch case is gold-coloured with a heavy ornamental pattern around the sides. At the top of the case is a ring for attaching the watch to a chain or belt. Bunny II was built by Australian Army air corps personnel from the 161 Possums using salvaged parts in Vung Tau, Vietnam, in 1970. Dating back to the 1950s, the bunny design on the tail of an aircraft has come to represent the tradition and spirit of Naval Aviation.Colored photograph in a black frame. Basil George Watson was an aviation pioneer born in Bendigo 12/10/1893. The family moved to Melbourne when he was a child. In 1914 he went to England to work as an engineer for the Sopwith Aviation Company. He also took flying lessons and received his licence in 1915. He now worked as a test pilot for Sopwith but when a crash rendered him unfit for military duty, he returned to Australia in late 1915. He designed and constructed his own biplane in the back yard of his Elsternwick home. At the end of 1916 he tested his plane by flying from Point Cook to Bendigo and then to Melbourne. This included an aviation display in Bendigo. He followed this by flying to Warnambool 25/1/1916. He then set up an experimental airmail flight from Melbourne to Mount Gambier. On 28th March 1917, Watson was demonstrating aerobatics for the entertainment of AIF servicemen at Point Cook, when his plane collapsed and fell into the ocean close to shore. Unfortunately, Watson was tangled in the plane's wires and died. This trophy was awarded in 1933 as a championship cup by the South Western District Rifle Clubs Union. Rifle Clubs have been operating in Warrnambool since 1860 and in 1904 the South Western District Rifle Clubs Union was formed. The donor of the trophy, James Fairbairn (1897-1940) was a pastoralist, aviator and politician. He served with the Royal Flying Corps in World War One and was injured and captured by the Germans. When he returned to Australia he acquired Mount Elephant Station near Derrinallum, Victoria and continued his interest in flying, becoming an expert on aviation. In politics he was firstly the member for Warrnambool in the Victorian Legislative Assembly and then held the Federal House of Representatives seat of Flinders. He was the Minister for Civil Aviation and in 1939 became the Minister for Air. He was killed in an aircraft accident in Canberra in 1940.This trophy is of considerable interest because it is a 20th century memento of the rifle clubs in the Warrnambool district and because of its association with James Fairbairn, a notable Western District personality in the first half of the 20th century. This is a silver-coloured metal bowl soldered on to a supporting stem on a circular base. There are two handles on each side of the bowl. The top of the bowl is covered with wire mesh with the original idea that the bowl could hold flowers (hence the name ‘rose bowl’). The bowl is inscribed on one side. The joystick has been held by the Barber family since the crash in 1945. It had been kept as a momento to the witnessing of the incident involving an aeroplane from the Nhill Air Training School. In recent times the joystick has been mounted on a display base and loaned to the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre to add to the awairness of this event. Bubble Sextant model Mark 1XA type A.M. 6B/218 in protective storage box. Complete, with operation instructions. This is an aviation navigation instrument used by the RAF and RAAF during the World War 2 era. A sextant is used to measure the altitude of celestial bodies above a horizontal line of reference. A navigator can use the horizon as this line of reference, but when an aircraft is above the clouds or flying at night, the navigator can’t see the horizon. The bubble sextant solves this problem by providing an artificial horizon.The storage case has a label with the following: "A.M. 6B/218 MK IX A" and the number "10772/42 (V)"

It appears that items .1 , .4 and .5 are insignia worn by members of the Royal Australian Air Force. It also appears that items .2 and .3 were gifts by members of the force for a friend or loved one. The origin of the two star shaped items is unknown. The Royal Australian Air Force was formed in 1921, being evolved from the Australian Flying Corps., the aviation section of the Australian Army in World War One. These items are examples of military insignia pertaining to the Royal Australian Air Force and are retained for display purposes..1 Propeller khaki cloth badge with red and black embroidered symbol of a propeller .2 An oval badge featuring a gold and red eagle with wings outstretched and a gold and red crown above embedded in a black transparent material. The BC-639A is a ground based AM VHF receiver covering the nominal frequency range of 100 -156 m/cs. The set was built for the U.S. Army Air Force in WW2 as part of a communication system to communicate with aircraft. A system of similar intent was built in Australia during WW2 by Radio Corporation of Victoria (ASTOR), with the addition of FM facilities. This system used the ARl7 receiver and ATl7 transmitter.
