The copy of this book is from the first publication and is rare. The book is set in the Yarra Ranges area with the characters based on local people. THe donors childhood pet dog "Chad" featured as a character in the book in chapter 12 p. 87. The daughter of the owner of Debbie, Patricia Reed (nee McKenzie) lives in South Belgrave. The story of Debbie mothering a kangaroo is based on a true story. The donor also advised that this remarkable dog also rescued and looked after a cat. 126 page hard covered children's fiction book titled "A Dog Called Debbie". Front cover depicts a black and white dog mothering a kangaroo, on a green background. The back cover features an excerpt from the forward by A. R. Chisholm, OBE Hon. D. Litt, Professor Emeritus and an illustration of the dog and Kangaroo playing. Healesville Sanctuary Heritage Centrepaper bag, 1980's
This carry bag was used in the 1980's to carry items bought at the Healesville Sanctuary Shop. Many bags have been used since the inception of the shop and this is one of many used over the years. It is interesting to note that paper was used widely throughout the early years and in latter years as the Sanctuary became more dedicated to preservation of the environment, more environmentally-friendly materials have been used.This is a white paper carry bag. The illustration in black and white is of a family group of grey kangaroos; 5 adults and joey. A light green basket-weave pattern forms the background. It has rafia handles and is inscribed with the name of the Healesville Sanctuary underscored in red.Inscription on the lower edge of the paper bag reads "HEALESVILLE / SANCTUARY / A TRULY AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE". Square off-white tile depicting a traditionally clad farmer's wife holding a basket of eggs and watching a hen running from her newly-laid egg. There appears also a proverb written In dialect: "Je kan d'eiers nie telle, vòdat je z'in 't bènnetje eit." (You can't count your eggs till they're in the basket.) A decorative border surrounds the scene and includes © with the initials R.S. The illustrations and wording are in brown. A hook for hanging has been affixed to the back.On the back the tile is inscribed MOSA HOLLAND and bears the numbers 213. -

Each carries 2 different blue-painted illustrations of regional costumes: (a and b) Volendam and Marken; (c and e) Staphorst and Nunspeet; (d and f) Middelburg and Spakenburg. Smoking became common in The Netherlands as a result of trade with the West Indies. The Jan Steen illustrations of typical chaotic households were well known and eventually came to be used to poke fun at excessive tidiness.A round pewter ashtray with a scene from a Jan Steen interior in the centre bowl section. 4 cigarette resting places are round the outside edge.The outside edge is decorated with scroll type engravings. A pewter manufacturer's mark is impressed on the reverse side of the bowl. -

The item dates from the years of Dutch influence in the region which ended in 1962. The region is now known as West Papua.As the above urls will show, West Papua's history is a complex one with various colonial powers disputing ownership with the local inhabitants. Modern Indonesia also lays claim to it. The area was part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 1949 till 1962. Prior to 1949 it was part of the Dutch East Indies. The item may well date from this pre-1949 period.Richly illustrated small rectangular glass ashtray showing map of one-time Dutch New Guinea, surrounding waters and smaller islands. Two endemic bids are also shown. The glas is a pale blue; the illustrations are in green and yellow; words are in black. The ashtray's four sides are curled slightly upwards.Oceans, seas and islands are named in the Dutch language. A dotted border marks off Australian New Guinea. -

Crown Prince Willem Alexander of the Netherlands married his Argentinian sweetheart Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti in February 2002.Simply produced paper item celebrating the wedding of Willem Alexander and Maxima which took place before he became King. The main section has been selected - the remainder folded behind and the result placed in a wooden frame. Their portraits are enclosed by a heart-shaped orange ribbon. A red, white and blue flag with orange pennant and an orange flag are on the opposite side. Both parts of the illustration are surmounted by a crown.Willem Alexander - Maxima -

Princess Juliana and Prince Bernard married in 1937 prior to the Princess becoming Queen in 1948.The fact that this item was brought to Australia with a migrant family indicates the affection in which the Royal Family was held by many Dutch people.Rectangular tile depicting a leafy tree loaded with oranges. Under it are four young people - two male and two female. The main colours are green on a greyish background. Orange accents appear throughout the clothing. An orange banner reads 1937-1962. Below the illustration is the motto: "Doen kunnen we alles maar dan ook alleen allen samen." (We can do everything but only together). On the back are various imprints relating to the maker Mosa Holland. -

Printed collection of pictures and words pasted on a board. The words and pictures indicated this edition of "Het Leesplankje" was used in the dutch East Indies. Among the illustrations are a man dressed for the tropics, a large colonial house surrounded by tropical plants and a coloured young woman.Each word contains a Dutch diphthong. -

Oral History:, B-24 Liberator Memorial Australia Inc.,Return of the Australian POW's 1945
B-24 Liberator aircraft and their crews were important in the repatriation of thousands of former prisoners of war at the end of the war in the Pacific in 1945.In May 2015 the B-24 Liberator Restoration group organised an exhibition to commemorate the role of B-24 Liberators and their crews in the repatriation of former POWs in 1945 at the end of the Second World War. It was believed that no such exhibition had been organised previously and that the memories of surviving veterans might be lost if no effort were made to record them.This collection includes oral testimonies of 9 surviving veterans who were crew or support staff for Liberators involved in these important missions. It also includes a 7 page summary of the historical context, including statistics of POW numbers, information on Government decisions about repatriation arrangements for South East Asia and the South West Pacific areas, as well as an evaluation of the role of B-24 Liberators in repatriating the former POWs.Approx 25 pp printed on A4 paper in plastic sleeve.Black-and-white illustration of B-24 Liberator at top of front cover. The Sidcup Collection came to RACS from the University of Melbourne, Pathology Department and is regarded as one of the most valuable held by the College. It includes the patient records created by the Australian Surgical Unit at the hospital and covers the period 1916 - 1919. There are 50 watercolour illustrations of patients sketched by Sgt. Daryl Lindsay, X-ray prints, photographs, diagrams and some case histories. Private Pritchard was treated by the Australian Surgical Unit during WW1.These casts are unique in Victoria An original plaster cast taken of a patient Private Pritchard, who required reconstructive surgery c1917-1921.
