Ash tray made from the burl of a Eucalypt tree by an unknown German Internee in Loveday Camp for Heinz Zienow, a member of the Persian Group of Internees, later transferred to Camp 1 Tatura, and used for the rest of his life. Else Oertel was an internee in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. Else (a German) was interned in the same compound as many Italians, and so took up Italian lessons. This book is one she used in these lessons. In 1943 German internees in camp 3 (Victoria) decided to produce theatre productions of their German heritage to familiaize their children with their culture/to keep everyone busy/ interested/ and involved as a community. A comment was made that this exercise was very successful.Kept the German culture alive in the camp. Else-Lore Oertel, with her mother, was a German internee in Camp 3A as a child, from 1940-1945. The ballerina & stand were made by persons unknown & given to Else-Lore while in the camp & was one of her childhood 'treasures'.Hand painted thin plywood decoration of ballerina inside a ring / circle, with wooden stand. Outer circle shape with insert for stand, cut out of ballerina posed inside. All carved from one piece of plywood. Circle is painted purple.
