Quinn CollectionA self-folding letter (0878.a) headed 19 Luxemburg Gardens, Hammersmith, W.6 and dated 02/07/51. The letter is typed using black ribbon. It is addressed to Mr Allan Quinn, C/- General Delivery, Post Office, Oslo, Norway. The return address is Mrs B. J. Hannon, C/- S.M.H.E.A., 1 Regent Street, Picadilly (writer's spelling). Below the return address is typed "Our telephone number is Riv. 1770 but in case of our moving Barry's business address is above and the number is Whitehall 3985." Below that is an Oslo postmark.Letter commences "My dear Allan," and concludes "With love from Pat." This item was used at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Kirkstall from 1910. Although the item is black, black is no longer a liturgical colour after Vatican II.This is of historical significance to the people of Kirkstall and Koroit. It has potential spiritual significance of the local catholic population. it represents a typical item of a small village church in the late 19th Century.A black robe embroidered with black and silver,The chasuble is Roman style also called sandwich board, Pre- Vatican II style. It is watered silk and it may date from the early 20th C but it may date late 19 Century.There is an embroidered symbol on the front that encompasses the letters J H and S. Black and White Photograph, Churchill Island Cairn, 04/11/1968
Churchill Island was discovered by Lieut. James Grant in 1801 and he planted the first wheat crop in Victoria there. The Cairn was erected to commemmorate this by the Victorian Farmer's Union. The Minister of Agriculture The Hon. G. L. Chandler CMG. MLC unveiled the Cairn on the 4th May of November 1968.Mrs J Jenner with grandson on left hand side of photograph and daughter Nancy on right hand side of photograph sitting on the Cairn which was erected by the Victorian Farmer's Union commemorating the first cultivation of wheat in Victoria by Mr James Grant in 1801 on Churchill Island. The Regatta was held to celebrate the centenary of the settlement of Melbourne. The "Mayflower" was built by the owner Joseph Nicholas Walton who was a fisherman and carpenter.Silver Cup atached to black bakelite stand with two handles.Cowes Centenary Regatta.
