Council preserves native plants At the request of the Society For Growing Australian Plants, Ringwood Council has agreed to buy a vacant house block to preserve some of the last and best remaining examples of indigenous understorey flora in Ringwood. Council last week negotiated a $48,000 purchase price for the triangular shaped block at the end of Debbie Place, next to B.J. Hubbard Reserve, which had been advertised for sale. `

Councillors Sylvia Phillips and Neil MacDonald have lobbied strongly against having the surplus from council's 1991/92 budget transferred into the trust. They claimed that by doing so, council was using general revenue to finance legal fees for the Eastland deal, which the public was told would be financed from payments from Coles Myer

The grant, made through the Home and Community Care Program, will enable Ringwood to establish its own Meals on Wheels kitchen later this year. Ringwood had bought meals from Nunawading for many years, but Nunawading kitchen facilities were no longer able to cope with the demand.

He refused to explain why, despite prompting from Crs Sylvia Phillips and Margaret Cheevers.
