Bill Delecca was born in Bendigo, Victoria in 1929. A Bendigo-based teacher and painter, he has exhibited widely in the local area from 1951, including a retrospective in Bendigo Art Gallery, 1990. He has twice won the Bendigo Art Prize for watercolour and his work is represented in galleries and private collections throughout Australia and overseas. On 13/8/1914 Red Cross was set up in Victoria as a branch of the British Red Cross. This coincided with the outbreak of WW1. Its initial remit was to supply comforts packages for soldiers. This expanded to the Voluntary Aid Detachments' (VAD) who cared for sick and wounded soldiers in hospitals or on transport ships. In 1929 the Red Cross Blood transfusion Service began. After WW11 it continued to expand into all domestic and overseas humanitarian operations. Donated to the 8th/13th VMR Collection as part of a collection of regimental silver from the 20th Light Horse Regiment circa 1950. 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised following WWI as part of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade AMF. It had its HQ at Seymour and sub-units along the Goulburn Valley extending to Tocumwal in NSW. During WWII the regiment was motorised then served as infantry in Dutch New Guinea. It was the only light horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII.Is a representative example of a trophy from between the wars. The size, material and decoration show the relative affluence of the officers of a regiment from regional Victoria. This Bible was owned by John Glasgow, a Wangoom farmer. His father, Robert, settled in Blackwood Hill near Wangoom in the 1850s. John Glasgow was a celebrated cheesemaker who won many prizes locally and overseas and a Warrnambool Shire Councillor from 1880 to 1886 and from 1892 to 1906. He was a Sunday School teacher at the Wangoom Presbyterian Church for 50 years and an Elder for 42 years. The book contains the names and birth dates of the extended Glasgow family and the names include Linnett, Glasgow, Coulstock and Anderson.This Bible is of considerable interest because of its connection to the John Glasgow and other members of his family. This is a leather-covered book with gold lettering on the spine. The cover overlaps the pages for extra protection. The pages are gilt-edged. One page has come apart from the binding and several other pages are partly detached from the spine. All the inscriptions are hand-written in black ink. One is a religious verse which has been pasted on to the inside of the front cover and on another page are listed the names and birth dates of 18 members of the Glasgow extended family. 2246 Pte, Clive Terril Rowe Born Melbourne. Enlisted 17th March 1916 in Sale Victoria, aged 18 years 5 months Pte. Rowe went from the 19th Depot Battalion to the 46th Battalion AIF. Departed Australia 16th August 1916 and returned to Australia 8th April 1919. He was discharged 15th June 1919. While overseas Pte. Rowe suffered trench feet, was wounded (shellshock) and chronic eczema. Pte. Rowe was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.British War Medal 1914-1920 Instituted by King George V in 1919 to mark the end of WW1 and record the service given.The circular medal is made of cupro nickel with the effigy of George V on the obverse. Around this are the words GEORGIVS V BRITT. OMN:REX ET IND:IMP: The reverse image has St. George on horseback trampling underfoot the eagle shield of the Central Powers and a skull and crossbones, the emblem of death. Above this is the risen sun of victory. The years 1914 and 1918 are contained on the outside edge of the medal. The ribbon has a wide central watered stripe of orange, flanked by two narrow white stripes which are in turn flanked by two black pinstripes, flanked by two outer stripes of blue. The colours have no particular significance. Along the rim of the medal is stamped 2245 PTE.C.T. ROWE. 46-BN. A.I.F.

The sculptures were designed by Amanda Gibson, carved by Hikaru Kodama and Leigh Conkie. This sculpture "Modern Warfare" shows two soldiers standing back to back. These soldiers are a symbol of strength and the ability to focus. And a reminder that Australian soldiers are currently deployed overseas. Women have been on the front line since 2016. She wears the uniform worn in East Timor. The male wears the uniform from Afghanistan. Teachers from all across Victoria enlisted in the Australian Imperial Army to fight overseas. 752 from the Victorian Education Department are listed as signing up. Many were teachers but also included were clerical staff, medical officers. Included in the book are details of the contributions made by others through donations of "comfort items" and subscriptions. There are details of The Young Workers' Patriotic Guild, the war savings effort in the schools and general school subscriptions. 703.1 was presented to Jarrahmond School and 703.2 to Corringle School. Neither school exists today. Established on 26th July 1919 this war medal was colloquially known as 'Squeak'. The medal was awarded to officers of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war or entered service overseas between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918. Approximately 6.5 million British War Medals were issued. Approximately 6.4 million of these were the silver versions of this medal. The front of the medal depicts the head of George V. The recipient's service number, rank, name and unit was usually impressed on the rim.Silver medallion with the front depicting the head of King George V and the back depicting a man on a horse on the top side. In 1915 Arthur Swanwick from Bendigo enlisted in the AIF. He left for overseas service in March 1916. He wrote a message to his sweetheart Jessie Campbell, placed it in a bottle and threw it overboard from HMAT A18 "Wiltshire". The bottle was found on a beach near Robe SA and the message was sent to Jessie. Arthur returned home and he and Jessie married in 1918. Arthur died on 11 April 1968. Arthur's niece sent the updated information after the story was shared with the family who knew nothing about it. A hand written letter on lined green paper sent to BHS providing an update on the story of a "Message in a Bottle" written by Arthur Swanwick to Jessie Campbell. The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories. This dress is an exception to the collection in that it was one of the few garments imported from overseas. Th reality is that increased postwar spending power by Australian women made the importation and wearing of imported fashion a more common occurrence.Bottle green coloured evening dress. The President in 1980 was Karl Robertson. A major issue for his year in office was the question of the extension of eligibility for membership to categories of ex-servicemen who had not served overseas or in the other areas presently defined in the Code. Document is dated 12/10/1981 as the presidential year ran from March to the following February and this was written sometime after he was replaced as president. Was in a binder of documents that is passed from an outgoing President to the incoming President. It is primarily from the 1930s to 1990s. An unsuccessful attempt was made to set up a silkworm industry at Mt Alexander, to be an occupation for ladies of the district as well as to introduce the silk industry to Victoria. An attempt by women to enter the business world was beaten by difficulties: (1). Road access to the property (2). Heavy frost damage to mulberry plants. (3). Disease of silkworms. (4). Lack of quantity of leaves. (5) drought and rabbits. Experiments proved silk harvested and woven was superior to overseas products, but the venture was defeated by the climate and the surviving trees were relocated to Corowa NSWA relic of the far-sighted venture by the Victorian Ladies Sericulture Co, promoted by the charismatic Mrs Bladen Neill , who was anxious to generate employment opportunities for women..A dead branch from a mulberry tree grown at Sericulture Farm, Mt Alexander, in the early 1870s. This long limb's bark has cracked with age, forming a pattern of brown cracks. Remnants of smaller branch axilla are clearly visible. This three-photograph group is the fifth in a series of records of items in the collection of Edgar Dawson DCM. Dawson was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 57th Battalion, AIF. C Company of the 57th was composed of men drawn from Echuca, Eaglehawk and Bendigo. Five page handwritten letter on light brown or fawn lined paper within a brown envelope within Reg. Item 2488, page 105. The envelope has been glued to the back cover of the book and is address to "Mr. James Inspector / Electric Supply". Seven overseas stamps have been stuck to the envelope. The letter dated 11/10/1937 from an unknown person who lived at 305 Eyre St Ballarat, not signed, outlines the building the horse tram depot in Wendouree Parade. The person put in a quote as the plumber. Notes various aspects of working on the site, materials, difficulties, Thompson and Moore of the Adelaide as the contractors, number of people on the job, problems with the construction, wind damage, building the workers cottages, their rooves and the cash boxes for the conductors.
