Slide - Photograph, Former Elltham Courthouse and Police Residence, c. Feb. 1989
... and Police Residence Slide Photograph ...The bluestone blocks were originally part of the bluestone lockup located behind the Police Residence and Courthouse. The stones at one stage formed an edging to a grass island at the intersection of Wattletree Road and Main Road and were painted white. When that intersection was reconstructed the stones were brought back to the former residence, occupied by the Shire Department of Parks and Environement where again they were used as edging for a newly constructed driveway put through from Main Road through where the original Police Station was sited. The stones now form part of the garden bed edging at the rear of the building. At some stage in 1989 a reproduction Police Station was built beside the residence as originally located, for the purpose of providing a lunch room for shire staff. The residence has been the home of the Eltham District Historical Society and Local History Centre since 2008. 35mm colour positive transparency (1 of 8) Mount - Agfa CS System grey 8 dots728 main road, eltham, eltham courthouse, local history centre, police residence, parks and environment, shire of eltham -

Photograph, Royal Mail Hotel, Diamond Creek; destroyed by fire, 1925
This hotel was located in Chute Street Diamond Creek. The site was from the C.F.A. station east to the corner. In 1925 this hotel was burnt down at 11.00 am on a week day and the street was closed by police because the lighting system used petrol gas and an explosion was feared. Fortunately there was no explosion. This photo shows the gutted structure after the fire. Note the blue stone edging surrounding the grassy island in the intersection. This stone was originally part of the blue stone lock-up situated behind the Police Station and residence at 728 Main Road (present day Local History Centre and home to Eltham District Historical Society). Following a redesign of the intersection the stone was again relocated back to 728-730 Main Road for use as garden edging.Digital TIFF file Scan of 35mm Ilford HP4 black and white transparency728 main road, d-639, eltham, level crossing, local history centre, lockup, main road, police station, railway parade, red rattler, steam engine, wattletree road, wattletree road bridge -

Previously occupied by the Parks and Environment Department of Nillumbik Shire Council (L-R: Mark Gillham, Margaret Ball Vice President, Sue Law Immediate Past President, Harry Gilham President) Nillumbik Shire Council Commissioner Vin Heffernan (1996-97) worked with Harry Gilham to obtain use of the former Eltham Shire Parks and Gardens office at 728 Main Road for use by the Society. Harry as a younger man had played in the scrum for Heidelberg Football Club along with Vin's brother who was on the wing. Photograph, Victorian Police Marching Band, Eltham Festival Parade, 16 October 1982, 16/10/1982
... photograph Victorian Police Marching Band, Eltham Festival Parade, 16 ...[article in EDHS Newsletter No. 27, November 1982:] 1982: 16-17 October. “Pioneers of Eltham” and tractor (rain). Although our parade entry did not win a prize this year, it was considered highly successful from a participation point of view. Despite some uncertainty as to just who was coming, members and friends kept appearing at the assembly area. As in the past years our friends from the Victorian Folk Music Club brought their instruments along and really added to the occasion. This year we concentrated on a rural theme with a tractor/trailer combination. Thanks to Peter Bassett-Smith for the tractor, Joh Ebeli for the decorations and friendly trailer owner Dennis McKay. Unfortunately the closing stages of the parade were marred by heavy rain. We just finished as the rain started but members scattered very quickly. This has prompted the suggestion for future parades that we have a tent or other suitable venue for members to gather after the event. This is worth following up. The cold driving rain provided a special problem for Peter in driving his tractor home to Kangaroo Ground. Have you ever had to choose between standing up to warm your hands on the exhaust and having your tractor seat flooded? Photograph - AHQ Survey Regiment Freedom of Entry Parade, 1970
The Freedom of Entry to the City was an honour conferred by the Bendigo City Council to the AHQ Survey Regiment on the 20th of April 1970. The unit was granted for the first time the privilege of marching into the city with swords drawn, bayonets fixed and drums beating. The honour is usually bestowed upon local regiments, in recognition of their dedicated service, and it is common for military units to periodically exercise their freedom by arranging a parade through the city. The Freedom of Entry Parade occurred on the 14th of June 1970 led by the Regiment’s CO – LTCOL Bill Sprenger MID, MBE; the unit marched up View St in the CBD to the Queen Elizabeth II Oval. The ceremonial parade followed with a march past the guests of honour, Mayor of Bendigo Councillor Jeffrey and military dignitaries. The parade concluded after formal inspections of the troops. A ceremonial scroll was presented to the Bendigo City Council to the AHQ Survey Regiment citing the occasion and was proudly displayed in the entry foyer to Fortuna Villa up to October 2008. The Regiment continued to exercise its Freedom of Entry with anniversary parades in 1977, 1980, 1985, 1990 and 1995.These black and white and colour photographs of the AHQ Survey Regiment were taken on the occasion of the Freedom of Entry parade to the City of Bendigo on the 14th of June 1970. Document - Document - Report, VIOSH: BCAE;, Special Inspection Report prepared for The Sovereign Hill Park Association; 1980
Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge. This special report was prepared by Neville Betts, Occupational Hazard Management student at Ballarat College of Advanced Education in 1980. It was to provide comment and recommendations aimed towards improving the standards of both occupational health and safety and general public safety at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. Interviews with those at Sovereign Hill and external public officials - fire brigade, police, ambulance contributed to the report.Twenty-eight A4 pages - typed document.
