ticketDemonstrates a range of tickets used by Provincial Tramways of Victoria.Assorted State Electricity Commission Victoria tramway tickets 1930 - 1972. The tickets, known as "flimsies", have a value of 2 pence to 10 pence. Some tickets have been nipped, the remainder are unmarked. The tickets in Row 1 are not marked with complete identifiers, but a label attached notes that they could be printers' samples. In Row 3, an alphabetic identifier is used, followed by a six digit number. The tickets are printed on cream paper in a variety of colored inks. In Row 2, there is a small manila colored envelope with the printed words "THE ENGLISH SCOTTISH AND AUSTRALIAN BANK LIMITED" and "A Bank where service is a Tradition". On the front, hand written in colored pen are the words "Bendigo Tramways (red ink) and Easter 1957 (blue ink)"In row 1, the label stating PRINTERS SAMPLES. ticketDemonstrates a range of decimal currency tickets used by the Provincial Tramways of Victoria.Assorted State Electricity Commission Victoria tramway tickets post 14.2.1966. The top row of tickets, known as "flimsies", have a decimal value of 18c. The second and third row are stamped and specifically dated 16th April, 1972, to mark the last day of the tram operation in Bendigo. The second and third row tickets vary in value from 5c to 8c. All tickets are printed in colored inks on a cream paper background. The tickets cover either the City Section, or four sections in and out of the city. The tickets are individually numbered with an alphabet letter and a six digit identifying number. The 16th April 1972 tickets are accompanied by a hand printed sign reading: BENDIGO - LAST DAY GOLDEN SQUARE - N. BENDIGO 5/3/72 QUARRY HILL - EAGLEHAWK 16/4/72 DONATED BY IAN STANLEY. A Kew Patriotic Carnival was held in Victoria Park in 1941. The event was promoted in the Argus newspaper as: "KEW CARNIVAL - A carnival, at which more than 25 local organisations will co-operate in raising funds for Kew Patriotic Society, will be opened at Victoria Park. Kew this afternoon. The carnival will begin at 2 p.m. to-day and will continue to-morrow. There will be afternoon and evening sessions each day. Arrangements have been made for open-air dances, bicycle races, athletic events, tennis tournaments, folk dancing, miniature golf, and a shooting gallery. Flowers, sweets, cakes, and re-freshments will be sold at stalls conducted by auxiliaries, and lucky envelopes, darts competitions, spinning-wheels, and games will be among the attractions."
