Functional Object - Brass Plate/s, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1931
Set of two brass manufacturing / data plates from the BTM Isolating transformer that failed Oct. 2004 and sent to ABB's Yarraville Workshop for assessment. Recovered from the transformer by ABB staff following inspection. Plates detail Manufacturer (State Electricity Commission of Victoria), ratings, connection diagrams, windings and date of manufacture (1931). These plates did not reflect the re-winding characteristics, but its original manufacturer. Transformer No. 1267. Each plate has four corner holes. Transformer acquired by the BTPS 1973 for re-winding from the SEC. See Reg. The conductor is adjusting the trolley pole it is preparing to head back into the city, and the destination board is reading Sebastopol. The shelter at the terminus can be seen, and there is a female passenger in hat and coat walking away from the tram. The photographer says this was taken on the last of the last tram to run in Lydiard Street in 1971. Yields information about the day to day nature of the operations in Ballarat, especially derailments at points of maximum traction bogie trams and the way people behaved at such times.Black and White photograph of Ballarat No. 34 derailed, Sturt & Drummond St corner (south side), causing disruption to tram services. Photo published by The Courier 20/7/1960, published on 21/7/1960. Three single truck trams are banked up behind the tram. Note the lady passengers remained on board while the Gentlemen watched from the street in their overcoats. No 15 has the destination of Mt Pleasant. Two ladies are sitting on a seat with Reid's mens wear shop in the background. Two other ladies are walking in front of the trams. Yields information about one of the first two maximum traction bogie trams in Ballarat in October 1945 after it had been repainted for use in Ballarat by the SEC and the Lake / depot area at the time.Black and white photograph of SEC No. 15 in Wendouree Parade just to the south of St. Aidans Drive. Photo taken looking south with the trolley pole to the camera in the raised position. Appears to be a new trolley rope. Tram has destination of "Gardens via Drummond Nth". Possibly taken soon after receipt and repainting in Ballarat in 1945. "The Ballarat Tramways" notes that No. 15 arrived in Ballarat October 1945 and was renumbered to No. 36 in 1953. Print made by John Phillips c1995. Print used in the interpretation panel at Gardens Loop - believed to be an SEC photo. 2135.1 - as above by wider to the left, shows more the lake. Added 13/4/2009.
