A vintage weighing machine used by merchants or grocers or in kitchens for food sale or preparation. It came from the home of Mr Thomas Gaudion and was used in the 1920's.An antique blue and white speckled cast iron and metal balance scale and weights for weighing food. On one side is a dish shaped oval tray sitting on a claw frame for holding food items and opposite is a smaller plate for holding the steel weights: 4lb, 2lb, 2x 1lb, 8oz, 4oz and 1oz. These forceps are most commonly used for placing and removing instruments within a sterilization container. They were mainly used to remove smaller articles from gas and, later, steam sterilisers. Larger items, such as dressing trays, large bowls, and jugs, were removed with the larger Harrison's forceps. This item is an example of the self-reliance needed by families during hard times. Many household necessities were made from available materials.A roughly made wooden cutlery tray/container made from a recycled dried fruit box. It has a leather strap handle attached to the divider. ITtis divided into two rectangular compartments. With it are 14 items of cutlery. There are 6 knives, 6 forks and 2 spoons. This photograph shows Buchan marble being transported by horse and wagon to Nowa Nowa Railway Station. Lnidsay Cameron is the driver on the right. In the background is the Commercial Store of T. L. Sherrington, General Merchant, Bruthen. In the early 1900s black marble was being mined in the Bruthen district. Some was used for the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne and Australia House in London. 900 tonnes were shipped to London to be included in the construction of Australia House. Marble quarrying has been a significant part of the history of Buchan in East Gippsland. Simpson was founded in 1853 by Alfred M. Simpson. It was a manufacturer of household appliances based in Adelaide, Australia. This stove has only 3 hotplates (not the usual 4) and may have been used in the 1950s.Used by a resident of the Kiewa Valley.Green ceramic stove with 3 hot plates - 2 solid (one small and one large) at the back and one at the front with coils (large). 5 black knobs - 2 for the oven and 3 for the hotplates. The oven has a tray and adjustable shelving. At the bottom there is a warming drawer. The stove is electric and has a warming drawer at the bottom. Small souvenirs such as plates, cups, mugs, ash trays and jars, showing scenes and buildings in Warrnambool, were first produced in the late 19th century for all towns and cities in Australia and were popular in the early to mid 20th century. They are still produced for tourists today. The Historical Society has several of these souvenir dishes but this is the first souvenir egg cup we have seen. The image of Liebig Street is appropriate as this is the main street in Warrnambool. This souvenir egg cup has no great significance historically but it is representative of the type of souvenir sold to tourists and it is interesting because of its age (1940s). This hand crafted doily, created during war time, features a side on image of a soldier handing a rifle with butt at his feet. In Victorian times, idle hands were frowned upon so women knitted and crocheted. In addition to their decorative function doilies have the practical role of protecting fine-wood furniture from the scratches caused by crockery or decorative objects, or from spilled tea when used on tea trays or with cups and saucers. This ash tray was given to a member of the Wodonga community by a veteran of World War 1 who served in the Royal Navy. The ashtray was made during "spare time" on board from discarded shell casings. The veteran, Howard Nation, came to Australia after the war and worked in several rural areas including Bairnsdale, Victoria. The Kraft Walker Cheese Co Pty Ltd entered into an agreement with Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company in 1935 whereby the Kraft company leased premises from WCB. This arrangement remained in place until the 1990s. WCB took over the Garvoc factory in the 1920s. Original owner Nora O’Connor the donor’s adopted aunt, migrated to Canada during WW2 and also worked as volunteer at the Vancouver Mission to Seamen where she met her husband Edward O’Connor who later migrated to Australia. NB Lightkeeper membership category across many of the Missions globally, was usually reserved for women busy as home-makers with children and also as a Junior membership category for children.The platter was accompanied by other materials from the Vancouver club of Senior Light keepers and together the material provides a parallel insight and reference to this group. It also provides a historical link within the worldwide network that is now recognised as the Mission to Seafarers. The Lightkeepers Auxiliary was also active with the Mission in Williamstown where they helped raised the funds to set up the new mission in the E,S & A Bank in 1943 which was furnished thanks to the High Commission of Canada.Circular , varnished wooden tray or plaque with beaded edge froming 'lip". A mahogany engineers' set created prior to 1900. It was used by Allison Osborn Burrows, a chartered engineer, post-1900. Mahogany instrument box with brass hinges, lock, and name plate. No key. Insert tray covered in blue velvet lining pressed into grooves to hold each instrument. Nickle silver instruments. Some items missing their bone handle. Base of box contains ruler, protractors.
