Liardet, W. F. E. (Wilbraham Frederick Evelyn), 1799-1878 depicts the busy port of Melbourne showing many types of ships and the Bethel Church built in 1860 on the Custom House land. The church replaced the Bethel ship which sank in February 1860.This watercolour along with the Francois Cogne print from 1863, "Sandridge from Hobson's Bay, and the engraving "A Bird's-eye View Of Melbourne From Sandridge" dating from 1882, is a rare depiction fo the Bethel church. The site of the former Kew Congregational Church was the earliest 'built' place of religion in Kew. An earlier building by Charles Vickers was replaced by a new brick church designed by Albert Purchas. Following the creation of the Uniting Church, the church at 30 Walpole Street was declared redundant and demolished to make way for the Bodalla Nursing Home (itself later demolished).Faded colour print positive of the former church in Walpole Street, Kew. Kew Tapestry The eight panels depict the history of Kew. This was a 1988 Australian Bi-Centennial Project carried out under the auspices of City of Kew Council and the Kew Historical Society Incorporated. Nearly 600 citizens including many children participated in the production by adding a few or more stitches. A book records their names and the panels upon which they worked. Artist: Joy Stewart Co-ordinator: Dorothy BenyeiSydney Joy (Joy) Stewart was born in Melbourne 1925. She studied at Swinburne Technical College Art School from 1941-1945, then the National Gallery Art School 1946-1948. Her career included employment positions as a display artist, designer/painter, gallery assistant, and art teacher. Joy relocated to Cairns in 1981. Solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Cairns, including 'Done By Me' at Cairns Regional Gallery in 1999. 'Dunhelen' is situated on the Mickleham Road at Greenvale. The rear of the homestead was constructed in the 1850's and the original owners were Richard and George Sinclair Brodie who emigrated from Scotland.A coloured photograph of part of a porchway of a house. The verandah roof is constructed from wooden beams and corrugated iron. The walls are bluestone with granite stone quions around the corners and window frames. Gold on the Tarrengower Diggings was discovered in the early 1850's, with the town of Maldon being surveyed and proclaimed in Dec. 1853. In 1860 Scottish settlers commissioned the Presbyterian church in Buninyong and the foundation stone was laid in March 1860 by Mrs. Celia Scott of "Mount Boninyong" one of the earliest settlers in the district. In 1971 the church combined with the Methodist Church to form the Buninyong United Church and then in 1977 became part of the Uniting Church of Australia.This church represents the impact of Scottish settlers in the district and their emphasis on religion and education, many of the church's fine stained glass windows depict depict various members of the Scott family and the Rev. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Asylum: Bendigo Benevolent Asylum circa 1880s. The Ionic style building in Barnard Street was opened in March 1860. The building was set on 11 acres and complemented with fruit, ornamental trees and flowers. It changed its name in 1963 to the Bendigo Home and Hospital for the Aged.
