This badge commemorated the 100 years' anniversary of the Eureka Stockade in Ballarat. The siege of Eureka culminated in November and December 1854 arising as the result of disagreement between disaffected gold miners (led by Peter Lalor) and colonial forces about compulsory mining licences. Girton College began as a private school in 1884 and was named after the first female residential college at Cambridge. Just prior to WW1, ownership and control was handed to the Anglican Church. In 1992 the church announced it would be closing the college for financial reasons. A group of volunteers stepped in to establish Girton Grammar School.Softcover book. The Ballarat School of Mines was established in 1879, making it the first site of Technical Education in Australasia. Although opened by the Church of England in 1857, Huntly was not recognised as beginning until 1860 when it began to receive government funding. In 1862 it became known as a Common School. In the 1870's it was partly destroyed in a wind storm and a brick building was built to replace it.
