Premiership cap presented to Hercules "Hec" Vollugi after Essendon won the 1901 premiership. Premiership caps were presented by both the VFA and the VFL until about 1924. The caps were traditionally made of navy silk. This one has had Essendon's colours embroidered on the peak in the shape of a shield. The Queen Carnival Coronation was held in the Canterbury Memorial Hall on 11 June 1940. Mrs F Eastwood was the trainer and the Honorary Secretary of the tennis club. The donor Mary Holborn married Geoffrey Stroud Clucas in 1946 in Surrey Hills. The photo documents a social fundraising practice common in the early 20th century. Queen carnivals were also popular in New Zealand. In both countries they were particularly common during World War I and in the years after, when they were used to raise funds for returned soldiers. The first such carnival is believed to have been held in Napier, New Zealand, in 1913. George James McFarlane was born on 19 August 1895 in Wodonga, Victoria. He was the youngest son of Charles John McFarlane and Emily Charlotte nee Ellis. He married Margaret Frances Kirley in Wodonga in 1918 and they had 6 children. George kept this diary for most of 1927. It documents his daily life and some local events. George worked part time with the local blacksmith and then on his own farm before and after work. He was later to take over the blacksmith himself, operating as a blacksmith and farrier from premises in High Street, Wodonga. George's diary documents his daily dedication to other jobs on the farm including trapping and shooting vermin such as rabbits and foxes, growing watermelon and vegetables and training horses. He also became a member of the Albury Coursing Club. In his later years, George moved to Euroa and then fo the Northcote and Broadmeadows area of Melbourne where he died in 1968.A small diary with cardboard cover including volume and publisher details within a border. A red and white retailer sticker has been adhered to the front cover. The diary includes a calendar for 1927 and 37 pages of information including postal, money order and telegraphic information, British weights and measures and Directions for Making a will. The remainder of the diary is divided into 3 days per page. Petrol rations tickets were first issued in October 1940 during World War II. Petrol rationing ceased in 1949. The ration tickets were produced by the Note Printing Branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.Two Victorian motor spirit ration tickets, tickets were originally printed on a sheet divided by perforations. Each ticket reads "VICTORIA" / "SERIES B" / "VALID IN ALL STATES" /"TWO 2 TWO GALLONS". The Kew City Hall, designed by the architect Harold Bartlett of Leith & Bartlett, was opened by The Premier The Hon HE Bolte on 23rd April 1960. The orientation of the photograph is directed from the northern (main) stage to the auditorium. The picture reveals the original interior of the Hall before it was converted into a library in 1986-7. Notable is the wooden partition which enabled the Hall to be divided into two halves, as well as the decorative brickwork. A cloak believed to have been worn by Captain George Ward Cole. George Ward Cole was an early member of the Victorian Parliament and the family featured prominently in Melbourne Society in their time. They established a substantial home known as “St Ninians” at 10 Miller Street in 1841. The family reportedly entertained Melbourne’s first Royal visitor the Duke Of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria’s second son at St Ninians in 1867. In later years St Ninians was subsequently sub divided and later demolished. A cream, green, brown and red striped cotton evening cloak with a brown silk velvet collar from the 1880s. The cloak features a double tiered velvet capelet with high standing collar that meets in the centre front, fastening with three hook and eye closures and finishing just below the shoulder line. At the centre front throat is an additional piece of lined cloak fabric which may have attached across the throat, purpose unknown. The lining of the throat and collar of the capelet appears to be a replacement with a darker red silk. The original red silk lining features through out the remainder of the garment. Inside the front left breast, the lining features two pockets; inside the right breast, the lining features a single pocket. The lining also features a waist tie to secure the cloak to the body. The Grantbank Estate was a parcel of land close to the centre of the shopping area of Bacchus Marsh which was sub-divided and offered for sale in 58 lots on the 13th September, 1924. It comprised an area of 15 acres, being a portion of the Millbank Estate which had been in the hands of the Grant family for 75 years. The lots had frontages to Gisborne Road, Patterson, William and Sutherland Streets. This was a significant sub-division of land and represented a major expansion of residential housing in Bacchus Marsh in the early 20th century.This land sale map is a typical example of housing estate land sales advertising maps produced by real estate agents in this era. When John Carfrae came to Ledcourt in 1848 he divided it into three runs, Ledcourt - Swinton & Newington. Alexander Grey came to Swinton in 1881. The Grey Family still live at Swinton. After severe floods in 1909 the original homestead was destroyed. This home picture was built in 1911 on a site on higher grounds.B/W. This sign was used in the Billiard room of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo RSL. Years ago when the Billiard room had a section divided off for part of a Caretakers Residence it was placed on the internal roof of the residence. It was mainly used at RSL meetings. When the RSL Meetings moved to the B&DRSL Club Inc it was used during the day when the Museum was open.
