This candle holder has a sharpened point to push or hammer into soft rock and a hook to hang on a ledge or piece of rock. It is intended to be used in a mine and many residents of Warrnambool and district went to the gold mining districts in the 19th century. But it could have been used in the Warrnambool district if a small night light was required in one of the many local quarries or even in the search for coal deposits in the region. It could also have been used in a household.This miner’s candle holder has no known local provenance but it is retained as an interesting example of a candle holder used in the past.This is a thin piece of metal tapering to a point at one end and curving around in a loop at the other end to make a handle. Along the straight metal piece is attached a curved metal hook. At the end of the loop is an open-ended circular piece with a serrated top. The circular piece has a rectangular-shaped end piece which enables the hole in the curved piece to be pushed out or pulled in to make the hole smaller or bigger. This bit was part of a bridle worn by a horse in a Light Horse Regiment during the Second World War. The style of this bit is similar to the British Universal Pattern (UP) 1902 bridle, as worn by horses in the Australian light horse, artillery, and horse drawn transport between circa 1902 and 1942.Dark metal horse bit constructed of four sections: two side sections, one middle section which sits between two sides and a chain which attaches to a loop on each side. Side sections have two large loops and a straight section with two rectangular cut outs. Middle section is straight with dip in centre, possibly for the horse's tongue. Chain is attached on the left side and hooks onto a hook on right side. Left side has "L" stamped into metal. The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. Percy and Myrtle Uebergang's children were twins, Ray and Joyce born in 1926 who lived at Tooram Park until their deaths, Ray in 1986 and Joyce in 1992. Neither Ray nor Joyce married and following the death of her brother Joyce set up the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation which supports the local community. This advertising mobile is part of the collection of items given into the care of the Cheese World Museum. The van Nooten family purchased the neighbouring property Tooram from the Neale family. Honey bee printed on card and mounted in a blue painted metal holder. On the front the bee is striped black and orange with 2 large wings and 1 small wing in white with black line detail. Originally known as Loves River it became Kawarren station on 16 June 1902. It consisted of a loop siding and combined office and passenger shelter. Goods loading was sawn timber (brought in on four tramways operating between 1905 and 1939), firewood, charcoal and limestone. In 1920 the limestone company built a store shed and a covered loading area at the terminus to assist operations. The company also requested the siding to be extended by three metres, which Victorian Railways did in the same year. This gave the loop a capacity of 21 trucks. Around 2,000 tonnes per year of limestone traffic kept the station busy until trade ceased in 1957. The bosun’s chair is a typical piece of equipment included on board a vessel in the late 19th and early 20th century. The nautical word 'bosun' is an abbreviation of the word 'boatswain' who is the person responsible for the repair and maintenance of the vessel. It could be used when rigging the sails and for rescue at sea, along with a thick rope anchored on shore or a rope between ships. It could also be used to move passengers to and from a ship as well as cargo on, to and from the vessel. A bosun's chair is a simple piece of equipment made from a short plank of wood and a sturdy piece of rope. It looks a little like a child's swing but usually has a pulley system that allows the user to adjust the length of the hanging piece of rope, and in so-doing adjusts the height above the floor or ground or sea. In modern times a harness would also be worn by the bosun’s chair user for safety reasons. Bosun's chairs are also used by window cleaners, construction workers and painters. Margaret Bennett was a student at Ballarat Teachers' College in 1949. She attended the Ballarat School of Mines as a full-time day student for three years, gaining her Diploma of Art in 1972. She was Drum Major of the Ballarat Ladies' Pipe Band from c1954-1955 and wore this shoe buckle in that role. She was also the set and costume designer for Junior Light Opera Company.
