Diggers & Mining. Getting the Gold. Slide: On some fields, but notably at Ballarat and Daylesford, the diggers soon began building water races from streams and springs, and running the race water into small reservoirs near their claims. (Water races, as we have seen, were also constructed all over the Ovens field for sluicing purposes.) Showing how tramway electrical current was returned to the electrical sub-station via the rails.Demonstrates an earth return bonding piece.Traction Return Current Rail Bond, consists of a multi strand copper cable abt 19mm dia. and 530mm long, with block of steel (25x25x43mm) brazed onto each end. The block of steel gets welded to the outside of the rail head at or near a joint in the rails. Recovered by the donor, with approval of the Depot Foreman, from the wreckage in the SEC Ballarat yard from the demolished Tram No. 20 that was involved in a collision on 16/9/1970. One of the support members, near the bell striker has been broken through and the area where it was secured to the roof of the tram at the same end has been bent.
