Victorian Bands' League
Programme, Souvenir...Mortlake Citizens' Band : Massed Bands Recital. Mortlake, April 18, 1948, 1948
This programme dates from 1948 when the Mortlake Citizens' Band held a Massed Bands Recital in Mortlake. A number of bands from the South-West region of Victoria participated with the event comprising of a March and various massed bands items. The programme is extremely detailed as to times bands were playing and also includes an amount of advertisements for local Mortlake businesses. This small programme is significant as it shows how a country town held a massed bands festival and hosted regional brass bands. It is also significant as it shows the amount of local businesses who advertised in the programme, and what kinds of businesses they were. This was obviously a major event for the town and the local band, and it appears that it was a success.Programme printed on paper with a card cover. There are some inscriptions and corrections in the programme primarily on the brief history of the Mortlake Citizens' Band.hamilton, terang, warrnabool, colac, camperdown, port fairy, mortlake, victorian bands' league -

Melbourne Legacy
Document, Letter from GE Milne, Lone Pine ANZAC 18/12/1915, 1915
Black and white photocopy of a typed letter written by Company Sergeant Major (later Captain) George Eric Milne on the second last night at Lone Pine, Gallipoli. The letter to his parents show that he was scheduled to be in the second last party to leave the area during the evacuation. The other papers with this letter show that Legatee Don S (probably Simonson) had attended a planting of a Lone Pine seedling at Scotch College and the Head had read the letter out as part of the service. George Milne had attended school at Scotch College and is commemorated with his name on the wall of the Memorial Hall. From NAA his record shows that he had left Australia as part of the 24th Battalion (on the same ship as Legacy founder Stan Savige), he served at Gallipoli. Later with the 46th Battalion he was wounded in action and died in France on 5 April 1918, and is buried at Gezaincourt Communal Cemetery. Full text of the letter is transcribed and attached.A first hand account of the evacuation of Lone Pine from someone in the same battalion as Stan Savige.Black and white A4 photocopy x 5 pages of a typed letter written by GE Milne and associated research.gallipoli, world war one, george milne, evacuation -

Wyndham Art Gallery (Wyndham City Council)
Photograph, Robert Young, Ice Lagoon Series #18, 2015
Jokulsarlon is a glacial lagoon on the south coast of Iceland. It is formed by ice breaking off the Breidamerkurjokull in the Vatnajokull National Park. The ice floats out to sea through a narrow channel and is often washed back onto the black lava sand beach by tides and storms. This area is frequently battered by wind and heavy rain and received a lot of ash and dust from the 2010 eruption. The images in this exhibition were taken over several visits: never in good weather. They are my interpretation of the wild beauty in this ever-changing landscape of rock and ice. australian photography, iceland, landscape -
