Ephemera - Set of two bundles of MTA tickets, The Met, 1980s
Tickets were bundled by the printer in sets of 1000 and issued to each depot Revenue Office clerks for distribution to the Conductors. These tickets comprise 30c City Section (green printing on off-white paper) and 50c (purple printing on off-white paper) tickets with numbers printed in black. Commencing numbers 837001 and 415001 respectively. Illustrates the method of issuing tickets to Revenue Office.Set of two bundles of MTA tram tickets, in set of 5 blocks of 200 tickets each. During Feb 2011 the tram was sold and placed on display as a coffee and drink bar at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Photos show the construction of King St overpass in Flinders St which was part of the project to construct a bridge over the Yarra River and provide a new southern outlet road between the city and eventually St Kilda Junction. The overpass construction was commenced in 1959 with tramway works first commencing. It was demolished in 2005. 1 - looking west at Market St. 2 - looking east from Spencer and Flinders St with the railway viaduct behind. 3 - Tram lines diverted onto the new overpass. Photograph of SW6 850 (Route 77) at the Prahran terminus, Chapel St and Brighton Road, probably soon after its construction and entry into traffic on 31-3-1939, although the roof appears weathered. The tram has a sign promoting off peak travel, dash canopy lights and a tail light. In the background are the shops at this location. Photograph of a 1926 Hudson Super 6 parked at the tea room/kiosk on the intersection of Riversdale Road and Warragul Road. Distinguishing features of the car include the triangular badge on the radiator and the unusual disc wheels. The 1926 Hudson also had horizontal radiator shutters. On this vehicle, a finer mesh has been attached in front of the shutters. This is normal practice when insects such as locusts are in plague. At the time, Warragul Road was known as East Boundary Road. Behind the car on the tramway pole is a colour light tramway signal for the single-line section between Warragul Road and the terminus. On 1 July 1928, the Wattle Park line was extended from Boundary Road via Riversdale Road to Elgar Road. It was built as a single track with a passing loop about halfway along, plus a passing loop at the former Boundary Road terminus. The tramway pole has a stop sign and a telephone box as well. In a box of negatives received is an envelope noting the car was owned by Ray Pearson and photo taken during the 1930s. Inside the motor car are two people, the driver, and a lady. In the background is part of the tea rooms located at this corner with a Shell gravity-fed petrol bowser. Photograph of MMTB Track cleaner - dust vacuum car No 6 at Preston Workshops. Reference page 76 of Destination City says the tram was built in 1915 by the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust as a general works car and rail flusher and further modified by the MMTB adding the vacuum equipment to try to control dust. Became known as No. 6 in 1934. Was out of use from the early 1940s and scrapped in 1948. Produced by MMTB to provide procedures for the recovery of tramcars and buses by the Emergency Vehicle Crew known as R10 - their radio call sign. Includes many photographs showing equipment in use. Prepared based on photographs during the 1960s. Provides details on the use of equipment for derailments, damaged equipment including the use of transporter bogies on trams.Shows the preparation of training materials for the Emergency Recovery crews.Folder by "Rexel nyrex" - green covered plastic containing 24 clear plastic sleeves. Each sleeve has two sheets back to back with some black and white photographs, typed foolscap. The folder has a typed tab or document titled "Emergency Procedures". Functional object - Section of 1906 rail - Essendon Tram Depot, Carnegie Steel Co, 1906
Rail used by The North Melbourne and Essendon Tramways and Lighting Co. at their Essendon Depot. Based on item 2566, originally rolled by Carnegie Steel in Pittsburg. The reference link provides the history of the company. Section taken from No. 13 road July 2005. Has rolling date welded onto one side, with location and date written in yellow paint on the foot of the rail.Yields information about the type of rail used in 1906 at Essendon Tram depot.Section of rail recovered from Essendon Tram depot relay with "1906" welded to one side. Has a hole on the underside cut using an oxy-acetylene torch for a bolt possibly to secure the rail. Has been sawn from a salvaged section of rail. Set of two colour prints taken on the last day of operation, of the Hawthorn Tram depot as a running depot in the evening. The photographer is not known. Possibly a copy print. 1 - looking at operations in Wallen Road with W2 353 (Hawthorn route 27) returning to the depot and two W2s (possibly 330 and 332) shunting in Wallen Road. 2 - SW6 855 and SW6 848 are on roads 5 and 6 in the "new" shed at Hawthorn. The depot ceased as a running shed on 14/2/1965.
