Entries have been individually crossed out, perhaps as a form written report completed. No details of the person who undertook the work. Title gold blocked. Details Alex Cameron's 1923 visit to America, Great Britain and the Continent of Europe in connection (note different spelling to the cover) with electric tramways. In particular it was to investigate the question of the use of Conduit systems. Visited San Francisco, Los Angeles, Kansas City, St Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, New York and Washington. Then to London, Paris, Brussels. Also attended the Municipal Tramways Association conference held in Portsmouth, August 1923. His conclusions - conduit system not desirable, and the need to regulate buses from competition with tramways. Has an appendix extracts of numerous reports, letters and papers about the various issues. Report dated 29th Oct. 1924. Photograph of Malvern Road and Glenferrie Road intersection showing the tram track H crossing with dual turnouts on the southwest and southeast corners. The tram tracks are at a lower level than bitumen roadway causing a rough undulating surface for motor vehicles. Extra works lighting is hanging from the overhead on one side of the junction suggesting future night works. This junction would eventually be relaid in mass concrete. A milk bar advertising various ice creams and other small shops are located at the intersection. Yields information about deterioration of tramway tracks and need for maintenance or replacement. Part B is historical notes on the area. Part C is the Site - Victoria Hill area. Part D is Stage One which consists of carpark area, technological museum, restaurant, mineral haulage line, picnic ground, earthworks and planting over the area. Part E is Stage Two which will consist of the open-air exhibits, in the area surrounded by the mineral haulage line, and the Central Nell Gwynne mine on the west side of the site. Part F is Stage Three which will consist of the winery, the steam tram track, the lake, the wildlife sanctuary and various buildings associated with gold mining. When the Commonwealth Post and Telegraph Act was passed in June 1902, and a national Postmaster General's Department (the PMG) was established the responsibility for the nation's mail and telephone services fell on Post Offices. The Bendigo Post Office, built in 1887 and situated on Pall Mall was the central distribution centre for receiving and delivering telegrams and continued to deliver communication and postal services until 1997. Now a Visitor Centre, dedicated volunteers at the Post Office continued to demonstrate and educate the public about the daily workings of the Post Office up until 2019 when Covid 19 disrupted every day life and Ted Rankins, the last Post Master and a long term telegraph volunteer at the Post Office, died. Manuals were issued to postmen to guide them in the delivery of letters and parcels and were small enough to be carried with them. This manual was used by the Bendigo Post Office postmen and is part of the postal collection donated by the Rankins family in memory of Ted Rankins,. Small, creamed coloured cloth covered manual. Contains forty four printed pages and two blank end pages covering all aspects of how to correctly deliver the post. Topics include 'Behaviour', 'Deceased Persons' and 'Bicycles' amongst many others. Book is bound and contains many extra additional paragraphs stuck in on appropriate pages noting changes and amendments.
