T & C ...This very heavy type of iron kettle was hung on a hinged swing-arm, known as a “crane”, in the kitchen fireplace. This type of kettle, with a tap was known as a “fountain”, gave ready access to boiling water. This meant that water could be kept hot all day by the fire, and the water topped up as necessary. The metal arm was swung out from the fire -place to access the hot water relatively safely.This "fountain" was used by one of the pioneer families in the City of Moorabbin.Cast Iron Tea Kitchen, comprising a kettle, with a lid, a hook attached to swivel handle and a brass tap attached to side of kettle. Machine - BABY DAISY: HAND OPERATED BELLOWS VACUUM CLEANE
Hand operated Bellows vacuum cleaner. Previously #27 The “Baby Daisy” Vacuum Cleaner is constructed from timber, steel and leather bellows. It has a carry handle fixed to the top. The base is approx. 500mm x 250mm. The height is approx 400mm. On one side is a bracket for a handle (missing) used to operate the bellows. The device is mounted on a foot plate that is split. On one side of the bellows is a circular metal detachable hatch, fixed by wing-nuts. This has a central hole for a tube (missing). Attached internally to this hatch is a cloth dust collection bag. The metal hatch has the following moulded words arranged in a circular fashion. 'DAISY Vacuum Cleaner). There are two brass plates fixed to the side of the cleaner above the hatch. These plates are stamped with 'Rd. No. 518080 and Rd. No. 530353' Gold printed Labels on the side say the following. BABY DAISER Vacuum Cleaner. Registered England. No. 518080/7 No. 530353/08 Trade Mark No.294851 /07 Designs France No. 25469/08 Germany No. 330219 / 08 Further Patents applied for. In the centre of the label is a picture of a Daisy Flower. Ref: ebay sale same item description : 'Pill Maker dating from the late 1800s, used by chemists to mould ingredients into pills. It consists of two main parts, the board and the roller. The roller is made of wood with two handles. It fits over the sides of the board and has wheels to enable it to roll backwards and forwards. The underneath of the roller is fitted with a brass plate with grooves in it that match the board, enabling the mixture to be pressed into the grooves and formed into a tubular shape, ready to be weighed and cut into pills. The board is made of mahogany with brass sides and matching brass grooves'. Apothecary Pill Maker of brass and mahogany, in two parts, the board and the roller. Object. Finely tapered wooden cane- .7 cm diameter at base and .9 cm at base of metal handle. The rounded top, forming a handle is metal and while some numbers are visible,I do not think that there is a hallmark to indicate silver No 935 and some indistinguishable letters. The metal extends around the handle and 10.5 cm down the cane. A 2.5 cm wide ''bracelet'' of a different metal encircles the cane, over the top of the darker metal. The cane has a covering of black paint, which is showing wear and tear. The cane has a 2.7 cm metal tip-possibly brass. Clothing - LEATHER HAT BOX, 1887
Leather, oval shaped hat box (in which is stored a men's silk top hat - 11400.834). Lined in blue velvet, and blue silk. Looped handle, 29cm long, attached with 2.5cm circular metal studs - possibly brass. An oval shaped insert, lined with blue velvet and silk, hold the inverted top hat. This hat was owned by John Sargood ( refer enclosed notes) whose initials are marked on trhe hat-box - J.S. - two cms high. An internal strap of black fabric, has a leather tab at one end with a metal key shaped fastener. Unfortunately the other end is broken off. This strap would hold the hat in the cavity. An outer leather strap, 4cm wide passes over the lid, and fastens at a 6.5cm diameter, circular metal disk with key lock. End of this strap is also broken - a piece of leather is inside the hat box. Clothing - LEATHER HAT BOX, 1890 - early 1900's
Very sturdy brown leather fully lined with red velvet. Base has a velvet lined insert to hold the hat in position. A 2.5cm wide braid, attached at each side, fastens with a silvery, metal clip, to secure the hat in position. A velvet covered frame sits at the top of the hat box, this has an oval shaped hole over the centre of the hat. A very sturdy, heavy lid has a strap across the lid - part of which is now missing-this strap would have fastened and locked into the circular brass locking fastener on the hat box. Two metal circular studs and stitching, hold the handle in place on the lid. A label and stamp have been attached to the lid, but are now badly worn, and a third Victorian Railways stamp can be identified.A card inside the hat box reads box 564 Cowling Collection hat box/hat. Brought to Australia by Dutch migrants in the 1950s. Used for slow cooking of dishes such as soups and stews.Cream enamel with green upper rim. Three-legged. Consists of two circular compartments, the lower one of which is the kerosene tank. Adjustable wick in holder attached to a handle with which the wick can be raised and lowered. Spare wick in tank. Upper compartment has small brass porthole with glass centre through which to monitor flame. Inside bottom of upper compartment there is a longitudinal slit within an oval raised section.
