From its beginnings in 1958, the Society has mounted exhibitions and/or displays, in early days in shop window and in community spaces located in the Kew City Hall (later Kew Library), and since 2010 at the Kew Court House. Exhibitions typically coincided with the annual Kew Community Festival in March, but after 2013 evolved into three new exhibitions yearly at the Kew Court House. Smaller displays continue to be mounted in the Kew Library. A series of photographs taken of current traders and members of the Society at the opening of the first exhibition for 2018 of the Kew Historical Society in its rooms at the Kew Court House. The exhibition was one of the Society's events at the annual Kew Festival. William James Trembath (13/4/1877-27/3/1930) was a draper who lived with his wife Mary Florence (nee Ellis) ( 1877 -29/7/1932) at 521 Hargreaves Street. They had married in 1901. Also living with them in 1924 was their daughter, Mavis Eileen who was a typist.Black and white photograph mounted on rectangular grey board. When a ferry was the only way to cross the river, a bell was rung to call the ferryman. this letter explains that the bell was sold to raise funds for construction of the bridge. Mr W. B Cumming bought the bell and passed it to Mrs T. McKenzie. this statement was written and signed by Mrs W.B.Cumming and further states the expectation that a tower and belfry would be constructed, along with a plaque memorialising church members and Mr W.B Cumming.Significant because it specifies what happened to the Ferry call bell, which was very important when the ferry was the only way to cross the river. Part of the Zakrzewski Collection of spinning wheels donated to the National Wool Museum by Mr Wlodzimierz Zakrzewski. For many years, Mr Zakrzewski collected, researched and repaired spinning wheels from all over the world. This wheel is from the Black Forest region of Germany and dates from the late 19th century. It would have been used mostly for spinning flax. Came from the Station Master's house at Mitcham Railway Station. Stationmaster was Mr Tom Hutchison who with his lived in the house. Harold Bakes obtained permission to remove them . Shirley Jones had first mentioned them and helped Harold to remove them, put them on the board and fill up all the holes. Reproduction of a tribute to Malcolm McCaul Brodie, who died in 1946, by his friend and work colleague William Tainsh. Mr Brodie was a passionate supporter of the Braille Library and joined the Board in 1923, occupied the position of Honorary Secretary before becoming Vice President in 1925, then President in 1929 until his death in 1946. This building, located at 97 Main Street Bacchus Marsh, was built by Mr George Muir in 1920 using bluestone walls from Landsberg House, a former boarding school at Mt. Blackwood. In 1946 Mr W. J. Wilmot opened a car sales business which was sold in 1954 to trade as Stamford Motors. Subsequently, various businesses operated on this site, and is still in use, presently as an accountancy business.Black and white photographic print. Photograph dates from the 1940s and shows a bluestone building with lintels of local sandstone supporting a pediment with a sign advertising Austin cars fixed on top. Signage on the pediment reads: W 1930 WILMOT & SON AUSTIN SALES & SERVICE PHONE 206. The frontage is divided in two, both sections topped by an arch. The left-hand section is glass-fronted, the right section open for vehicle access. The door between the two sections is also arched. Two vehicles are parked at the front, a sedan and a ute, presumably both Austins.
