The group photograph was taken in Robinvale in October 1998 on an Ithacan Club trip to Mildura. A number of Ithacan families settled in the Mildura area during the early years of the twentieth century and the trip provided an opportunity to visit places of historical interest. A coloured photograph seven ladies and three men standing in a garden. Peter Paxinos is standing behind the group on the LHS and Leah Koutsounos is in the front on the far RHS. -

Michael's Building was the club rooms for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society from its inception in 1916 until 1958 when the society acquired its own building at 329 Elizabeth Street.The Ithacan Club occupied the first and second floors of Michael's Building. A 'kafeneo' was located on the first floor and social activities such as dances, children's parties and Christmas and New Year's celebrations were held on the second floor. For many of the early Ithacan migrants to Melbourne, the Ithacan Philanthropic Society was like a home away from home. It gave them a sense of belonging and security within their community.A coloured photograph of a three storey building in Melbourne. Photograph, Camperdown Football Team, c1940-41
The men photographed were members of the Camperdown Football team some time in 1940-41. Camperdown in regional SW Victoria is an important centre for the surrounding cattle and sheep farms. Panayiotis Raftopoulos (pictured in a suit on the right next to the 'mascot' in white) owned the Leura Cafe in the town and involved himself in local social and sporting clubs. Panayiotis was the father of Yianniko Raftopoulos. Many Ithacans settled in regional Victoria and often owned and operated cafes in country towns. Razos and Maria Lourantos, Athena Zafiratos (nee Mavrokefalos) and Nick Zafiratos and one of their daughters, unknown, unknow, Nina Raftopoulos, John Raftopoulos and John Razos.The building of Ithaca House, clubrooms of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society, was completed in 1958 and continues to be the meeting place and for members of the Society. Over the years the club has held many successful social functions for members at Ithaca House. During 1960s the Ithacan Philanthropic Society held regular dances on Tuesday nights at their club rooms which were very popular. The dances were held on Tuesday nights because many of the members were either stall holders in local markets or had fruit shops in the suburbs and they did not have to start early the following morning because the retail market was closed on Wednesdays.A black and white photograph of four ladies and four men with three girls seated around a table at a social function. -

Booklet, Constitution of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society, 21 August 1927
The booklet is the first constitution written for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society which was established in October 1916 in Melbourne. Although the constitution was written with the formation of the club it was not printed in this format until 1927 when there was a printing press in Sydney which was able to print material in the Greek language. The back pages of the booklet have listed the names of committee members when the club began in 1916 and the 1927 committee members. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society was established in 1916 and it is still a functioning organization today with over 400 members of Ithacan descent. Over the years it has supported many worthy causes both in Australia and Ithaca. To keep abreast of the times its constitution has changed to reflect its membership. A small booklet with a cream cover with the information in Greek and printed in black. The information inside is also written in Greek as the booklet was the original constitution of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The club's badge above the main heading depicts an episode in the Odyesseus legend showing him tied to his ship's mast to avoid being lured by the sirens as his ship is being rowed past their island. -
