The photograph was taken in front of the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Service Centre at Chessell Street, South Melbourne. The three men are employees of RDNS who work in the RDNS Service Centre and are looking at a donated Van.In May 1971 the Commission Shop donated a Van to the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), to be used by the Maintenance crew for delivery of equipment and transporting goods and documents between RDNS Centres and Headquarters. It was also used for transporting Maintenance staff, and the equipment they required, to do maintenance work at RDNS Centres as needed. The Commission Van was kept at the RDNS Service Centre, at Chessell Street, South MelbourneBlack and white photograph showing, Mr. Pincher, who has curled hair and is standing on the left in front of a white Van looking at a sign on its centre front. To his right is Mr. J. Grigg, who has dark hair, and is standing between the open Van door and the body of the Van; he is pointing with his right index finger to the sign. On the right in front of the Van is Mr. J. Greet who is touching the wiper blade on the Van with his right hand and is also looking at the sign.The three men are wearing grey work coats over their clothes. Only the front and a little of the roof of the Van can be seen. The attached rectangular white sign with dark capital letters reading "Donated By The Commission Shop May 1971" sits in the centre of the Van above a black thin oblong sign with a centre white section containing a black capital "N". Only the left headlight can be seen and the grill below this; below that the black Number plate with white writing "KWH 727" is seen. Mt Calvin, the homestead of Jeanie and Willie Richardson can be clearly seen in the clearing above the men in the picture. The white roof of the Barber homestead is on the right of the picture. A landslide in 1934 destroyed the tree ferned area. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the area working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas.Black and white photograph that is a copy of a Rose series postcard titled 'The Picturesque Road to Mt. Dandenong. Vic.' It shows two men (probably Rose Series employees), one sitting and one standing at the edge of an unmade road. Large tree ferns line the roadside. Handwritten inscription on reverse by John Lundy-Clarke1913 View east from Doughty’s Road showing Jeannie Richardson’s home through the gap in the trees. A little to the right of and below centre of picture can be seen George Barber’s home with Barbers Road turning around the wagon shed that was a little up the hill from the house. The tree ferns in the picture were destroyed in the landslide of 1934. In the distance at the right can be seen F.M. The Kew City Council Depot was for a period situated on the corner of High Street and Disraeli Streets. The photo from the former City of Kew Municipal Collection was taken by a photographer from Stuart Tompkins Studio in Camberwell. One of four original black and white photographs of a horse and cart and a council employee, Barry Avery, in Parkhill Road, Kew. In a number of photos the cart has K.C.C., in large letters on its side. It is presumed to be the city garbage cart No.3 which was stationed at the old Council Depot on the corner of High and Disraeli Streets. The photograph shows a large group of about 80 cable tram workers or employees, officers, managers, inspectors, crew, and depot or car house workers on a cable tram. Note the destination on the trailer or cable car "via Smith St. Possibly taken prior to the closure of the cable tram system in October 1940 and could be at the Clifton Hill depot or car house. Photo used in a poster, Melbourne Tramways Past and Present - with the caption Depot Employees at Clifton Hill at Final Stage Oct. 1940 This photograph is Public Records Office photo H179 in the Victorian Railways collection.Yields information about the type of uniforms or office clothing worn by cable tram staff prior to the closure of the cable tram system, the type of and number of employee's at a depot.
