Uniform - Jacket, Battle Dress, Australian Government Clothing Factory, 1981
Issued as a uniform item post WWII until the late 1980s. It was also used parade dress until its replacement of a newly designed uniform made of polyester. This particular sample belonged to CPL K. Howe 3144504 whist in the Army Reserves 1982 to 2005The khaki battledress was standard uniform issued post world war two and used until the introduction of the polyester uniform in the late 1980s. This uniform belonged to CPL K. Howe, the donor providing good provenance. In conjunction with other items of militaria donated by the Howe family. Item can be to tell a story of multi generations of military service of the Howe familySingle breasted hip-height jacket in khaki fabric, fastened with five buttons down the centre of the chest. Two pleated breast pockets with triangular flaps fastened with two buttons. All buttons plastic and khaki green in colour. Jacket is fastened around the hips with a belt, attached on left hand side and buckled in a rectangular metal buckle on right hand side. Both left and right sleeves bear two patches, a double chevron and red rectangular patch rounded to follow the seam of the shoulder, with embroidered text. Navy lanyard looped around right shoulder, held in place by epaulet and tucked into right side pocket. Red patch reads "ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ENGINEERS" Internal left chest label reads "A.G.C.F./VIC. 1981/[broad arrow symbol]/6405.66.025.6408/SIZE OF CHEST/SIZE 99-102R/MACQUARIE 80/BATCH J/DRY CLEAN ONLY/CREASE UPPER/HALF OF/LAPELS ONLY/No. 3144504 [handwritten]/NAME/CPL K. A vintage 1915 Chatterbox collection of puzzles, poetry and stories for children with black lined illustrations and coloured plates throughout.A badly damaged vintage 1915 hardcover children's book with the title Chatterbox. printed in white lettering at the top of the front cover which has a green coloured background with an illustration in a large circle of a dog with a red bandana wrapped around its head, lying in a straw lined box. A black cat is sitting looking at the dog and is wearing a blue ribbon with a bow around its neck. It is sitting near the dog's food bowl. The yellow and red coloured outside of the back cover has an advertisement for "Pears" soap with 'The Night of the Bath' printed underneath. The title page is missing as is the frontispiece coloured illustration usually found in these books. The pages 1 - 18 are missing. There are black and white illustrations, diagrams and coloured plates in the collection as well as puzzles, poetry, and stories for children. Pp. 400. The endpapers have several advertisements related to children, their health, food and sweets included. Alec William Bond was Secretary and Engineer for the Shire of Bacchus Marsh from 1924 until his death in 1968. The position of Secretary was similar to a Chief Executive Officer in contemporary terminology. The grandfather, Mr Maxwell invites Charlie to live with him so the child goes as the family ambassador. It has religious and strong family themes.This green cloth hardcover book has a colourful paper dustjacket depicting a mother with a small boy wearing a sailor suit sitting on her knee. Portraits on the wall, an oriental screen near a small table with knick knacks and a vase of flowers completes the scene. The title is printed at the top in red lettering with the author's name underneath. The spine is coloured in pink and blue lettering with the spine, a picture of a boy and the publisher Shaw at the bottom. There is an emphasis on Royal Family life.A large thick, heavy green hardcover Girl's Own Annual Volume 46 with a large square picture depicting two women walking in the snow holding bunches of holly. The title is in red print and there is holly surrounding the illustration. The spine has the title printed in gold lettering, holly leaves and Vol 46 in black type at the bottom. It is a 1924 edition of this series. The end papers show green tinted woods and a stream. The coloured frontispiece is of a woman decorating a Christmas Tree from the story - The Christmas Fairy. Bakery Square–Site of 19th Century Jongebloed family bakery, grocery shops and residence demolished 1970 and later hardware shop erected c 1960. Gorrfried Jongebloed was born in 1857 and came to Melton in 1887 as a Captain in the Mercantile Marine. In 1888 he married Marie Antionette, second daughter of Mr Shebler, and took over the bakery and green grocers business. Ten children were born to the family- Gerhard, Annette, Gorrfried (dec 1937), Emil, (dec 1947), Nicholas, Julius, Theckla, Augustus, Marie and Margarethe, - who settled in various parts of Victoria and are, in the bakery businesses. Mr and Mrs Jongebloed senior carried on the businesses in Melton until 1926, when one of their sons Emil, took over. Mr Jongebloed, senior, died in 1930 at the age of 73 years; and his wife living until 8th October 1946, when she died at the age of 80 years. After the sudden death of Emil, in Jan., at the age of 49 years, the business had been conducted by two sons “Pat” and Bryan. Store closed down in 1970 and was demolished in 1976/1977. This engine turned belts to power battery operation. Used from C 1910-1920, some are parts missing. 'Tangye' had offices in Sydney.The first gas engine, a 1 nominal horsepower two-cycle type, was sold in 1881, and in 1890 the firm commenced manufacture of the four-cycle gas engine. Incorporated as a limited company from 1881, in 1894 they produced their first hot bulb engine.[2] Richard Tangye was knighted in 1894. After the deaths of Richard (1906) and George (1920), with the family owning the majority of shares, their sons entered the business.[2] In 1919, the company started production of large-scale industrial diesel engines, pumps and hydraulic equipment. Engine production was stopped after World War Two. A Tangye 35HP suction gas engine. (incomplete). Large green cast iron engine sitting on large white concrete block, with inscriptions on both sides. The green engine has 3 outlet/inlet pipes and joins onto one belt wheel; belt wheel joins onto another belt wheel which is sitting on another white concrete block."Tangye/patents/birmingham" -

Bakery Square was the location of Jongebloed shop, bakehouse and stables Bakehouse owned by Gottfried Jongebloed and Auguste Shebler. Auguste Shebler came to Melton in the early 1950’s and in 1857 built a store on the corner of High and Smith Streets. Mr Shebler was the Postmaster, and Paymaster for thee Government, who sent a batch of 400 to 500 immigrants to clear trees and fallen timber off the Ballarat Road; the wages being 5/- per day, and oversees 10/- per day. In 1865, Mr Shebler built the Golden Fleece Hotel on the present site and, although many alterations have taken place, most of the main walls still belong to the original building. He built a store some 100 yards west along High Street, and added to it a bakers’s business; then he built a butcher’s shop and leased it to the late Mr G McKenzie. Gorrfried Jongebloed was born in 1857 and came to Melton in 1887 as a Captain in the Mercantile Marine. This item is from a collection donated by descendants of John Francis Turner of Wodonga. Mr. Turner was born on 6 June 1885. He completed all of his schooling at Scotts Boarding School in Albury, New South Wales. On leaving school, he was employed at Dalgety’s, Albury as an auctioneer. In 1924 John was promoted to Manager of the Wodonga Branch of Dalgety’s. On 15/03/1900 he married Beatrice Neal (born 7/12/1887 and died 7/2/1953) from Collingwood, Victoria. They had 4 daughters – Francis (Nancy), Heather, Jessie and Mary. In 1920, the family moved From Albury to Wodonga, purchasing their family home “Locherbie” at 169 High Street, Wodonga. "Locherbie" still stands in Wodonga in 2022. The collection contains items used by the Turner family during their life in Wodonga. Victoria Porcelain - Victoria is the name of the leading porcelain producing company of Austria. It was founded 1883 by a company called Lazarus and Rosenfeld ltd. In Bohemia, Austria. After 2 years the factory was sold to Franz Schmidt. It was under his ownership that the Vitoria factor became the largest porcelain producing factory of its times. The Victoria Austria round green mark was used between 1904 and 1918.This item comes from a collection used by a prominent citizen of Wodonga. It is also an excellent example of Victoria Austria porcelain of the early 20th century.A porcelain shaving mug with floral design on one side.
