A brochure produced in 1978 by the Royal Geographical Society, offering "by private invitation only" the opportunity for interested parties to purchase a print of the Bark 'Endeavour', in 24 karat gold and silver, of a very limited production run. The print was offered at $270 in 1978 - at not insignificant sum.Ornate paper and ink 3-page advertising brochure, in landscape orientation, from The Royal Geographical Society. The brochure is advertising the release of a commemorative framed silhouette print of the Bark 'Endeavour' in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Captain James Cook. Page 1 of the brochure consists of the Royal Geographical Society ensign at the top of the page and an introductory description of the commemoration, which is adorned above and below, with ink flourishes of curlicues and scrolls. Page 2 depicts an image of the framed silhouette print on offer. Page 3 contains 3 columns of text which briefly describe Captain Cook's travels, the work of the artist involved in producing the print and terms and conditions for ordering and purchase of the print. The company was founded by merchant squatter, Isaac Younghusband, originally as Younghusband & Co Ltd and was registered in Victoria on 1 May 1889. The business was engaged in woolbroking and as stock and station agents. In 1897 it became a proprietary company under the name of Younghusband & Co Pty Ltd. Another change in name occurred in 1902 when the company took over the woolbrokers R Goldsbrough Row & Co Pty Ltd and became known as Younghusband Row & Co Pty Ltd. In 1869, the Warrnambool Meat Preserving Company commenced their business on the site, where it operated until 1875 when it was sold to the directors of the Warrnambool Woolen Mill Company. After being destroyed by fire in 1882 it wasn’t until 1910 that the Warrnambool Chamber of Commerce was approached by Marcus Saltau and Peter McGennan to invest in a new mill. The original directors were James Dickson, P J McGennan, Robert Swinton, M Saltau, and J W Younger. In 1955 the Warrnambool Woollen Mill formed a partnership with the Wangaratta Woollen Mills. Dunlop bought the mill in 1968. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Montrose Cottage was build c1856 by John Alexander, builder. He was a Scottish stone mason. It was built with bluestone and hand-made bricks. It is on the Historic Buildings Register, National Trust (Victoria). It is important as a substantial and very early stone cottage. The house is now open to the public. It also provides short term accommodation - self contained apartments. Printed sheet gives information of the project and restoration of the cottage. Charles Plowright operated the Western Hotel on the corner of Timor and Kepler Streets from 1910 until around 1919. It was built in 1869 by William O’Brien, having been designed by Andrew Kerr. It was a staging place for the Cobb & Co Coaches. A common commercial product with which many people could identify. The Western Hotel is a common Warrnambool landmark built around 1869, it was one of the earliest hotels and operates to this day. Plain white soup bowl with flat rim. During the Open House Melbourne 2011 artist nicknamed "586" participated in one of the Norla Dome Project Space events sponsored by Bendigo Wealth. The original large print was on display and smaller prints were also sold to raised funds for the Mission.
