Born Highbury College London 1834, died Melbourne June 19, 1910. Ordained in Pitt Street Sydney Congregational Church 21/3/1860. Ministry: Bush Mission, Lower Darling River 1860–61; Maryborough 1861–64; Dawson St Ballarat 1864–72; Williamstown/Secretary CUV 1872–84; Secretary CUV 1884–1908. Chairman CUV 1871–72 & 1908–09. Son of Rev. Dr Robert Halley, Principal of Highbury College. Arrived Sydney c. 1853. Had a holiday home at Queescliff/Point Lonsdale and tried to establish a Congregational Church there. Obituary read: "For 37 years in the office of Union Secretary he had proved himself a faithful preacher of the Gospel, a leader of the general interest of the churches of peculiar force, knowledge and devotion, and an earnest and high principled citizen of the State, devoting hmself to the social amelioration of the people and the extension of the Kingdom of God. Our late Secretary was a man of vigorous intellectual power. His early life had given him a bent in the direction of the study of natural history. An epistle from the Greek (epistolē, meaning "letter") is a writing directed or sent to a person or group of people, usually an elegant and formal didactic letter. The epistle genre of letter-writing was common in ancient Egypt as part of the scribal schools writing curriculum. The letters in the New Testament from Apostles to Christians are usually referred to as epistles. Those traditionally attributed to Paul are known as Pauline epistles and the others as catholic or "general" epistles. The subject volume is titled "Annotations on the Apocalypse" and was intended as a sequel to those originally written by Mr. Elsley on the Gospels and of Mr. Prebendary Slade on the Epistles, and thus aimed to complete a series of comments on the whole of the New Testament, for the use of students in prophetical scrip this book, "Annotations on the Apocalypse was intended as a sequel to those of Mr. Elsley on the Gospels and of Mr. Prebendary Slade on the Epistles", by John Chappel Woodhouse, is a second edition of the book originally published before 1824. These pair of books were part of Tom Wicking's collection and represent the type of literature published and read in the early 1800s and up to the present day for the religious instruction of priests. Spine has “Slades Annotations on the Epistles, Vol I”. Covers have green and cream diagonal tartan with brown binding decorated with gold. Annotations on the Epistles, being a continuation of Mr. Elsley’s Annotations and Principally Designed for the use of Candidates for the Holy Orders, by the Rev. James Slade, M.A., vicar of Bolton, and Prebendary of Chester; late Fellow and Tutor of Emmanuel College, Cambridge; and Examining Chaplain to the Lord Bishop of Chester. This stamp was made by C G Roeszear & Son Melbourne. This was passed to me by my mrother, Mary Elizabeth Millane Nee Markham. She told me that, for as long as she could remember - and from at least 1920 - this stamp had been used by her mother, Bertha Jane Markham (nee Cruse) when she was Post Mistress at Mitcham and that she, ( that is, my mother) had continued to use the stamp in her own shop (Cnr Station St and Whitehorse Rd) from 1944 to 1957. This stamp was used in Mitcham Post Office continually from 1920 to 1944 at which time the Post Office was removed from the building; it was then used in the shop at the same location until June 1957.Mrs Markham's Paid Brass stamp Wooden bull shaped handle attached to a brass oval shaped stamp with words PAID IN FULL Mrs Markham was postmistress at Mitcham.It was part of her shop & dwelling cr Whitehorse Road and Station Street.Building on WCC Heritage overlayPaid in fullmetalcraft, bronzeware

Log Cabin built by Mr. J. Wharrie c 1930’s. Originally the Log cabin had a bark roof. The roof was replaced with iron. The home is located in Darlington Road Stawell. The Wharrie family lived in the cabin for many years during the 1940's and owned a doll factory. Black & white photograph depicting a home built of logs with a lattice porch way, stone chimney's and iron roof. On the iron roof is a weather vane decorated on top by a carriage and 2 horses.
